Glamping at PRISTINE CAMPS

We visited Pristine Camp in Salinas Grandes this weekend and found it an amazing experience. Picture an expanse of blinding white, surrounded by mountains, and then 5 white domes jutting out yet blending in with the surroundings.

Currently it is the rainy season so the salt was covered by a shallow layer of water, but this only made the views twice as amazing, mirrored as they were in the still waters. The silence at night is absolute. The stars infinitely bright. Fabulous food, impeccable and unobtrusive service, stunning ever-changing views one can’t stop looking at.

The whole camp is an intimate, private bubble where the cares of the world melt away for a while.

A visit with a knowledgeable guide to a local adobe-walled village that boasts, of all things in this arid desert, a trout farm! and an evening of stargazing with explanations on the meaning of the different constellations to the indigenous peoples made the stay very special.

The communal dome combines living room areas and dining tables, also with floor to ceiling views and a large lounging deck. The food was absolutely first class, delicious, well presented and served impeccably. Dinner is a three course meal, with three choices per course, using locally sourced ingredients. There is also a small bar if one wants a pre-dinner cocktail, and a selection of board games and cards available (though they don't get much use - everyone wants to enjoy the views as much as possible).

Each bedroom dome was elegant, comfortable and cosy, with a huge floor to ceiling window and a private deck with lounger (ours also had a hot tub!) to admire views, particularly the sunsets. Private bathroom with shower, plentiful hot water (they have solar-powered water heating - and sunlight here is in abundant supply), lovely locally produced amenities and fluffy towels.
