Mapping Climate Action in Arts & Culture

The ENA Climate Group and We Are Museums are calling out to all cultural heritage climate activists to push for collective climate action. We can achieve so much more together! Rightly, the youngsters are calling on us: No more empty promises! Let’s join them. 💚

We have decided to stop postponing climate action. We are a group of dedicated GLAMworkers. We love arts and culture, we work to preserve cultural heritage, we work in communication and cultural mediation. We work as cataloguers, librarians, archivists, curators, data managers, people managers and many other varied roles. As we care for the past, we must equally care for the future and protect it for the following generations. The way we see it: If our future is endangered by climate change, our past - preserved in our cultural heritage - is at stake. Our profession and our institutions are at risk when the impact of climate change is turning the world as we know it upside down.

Join us and add your (planned) Climate action as a cultural heritage, art and culture institution to the Climate Action Map, whether small or large. We are mapping these climate actions because we acknowledge the special social responsibility of galleries, libraries, archives, museums, theatres, concert halls and science institutions to care for the future of our civilisation, our culture, our planet. NO MORE EMPTY PROMISES We are all aware of many actions we can take, both on a private and individual level, and as institutions, to inform, mediate and advocate for climate action in societal discourse. Now, it is time to share and connect our knowledge. It is time to act. NO MORE EMPTY PROMISES Our world deserves it. Our future deserves it. Our future generations deserve it.

Our map is open source. It is easy to use. Our map gives you a platform and shows the world that we care, because we, together, know what it means to care.

How to use the map?

You simply click on "add your organisation here". The map-app will invite you to a real easy questionnaire. The answers are transformed into a coloured pin on the map. Clicking on the pin - that is the idea - a little info box opens unveiling further information to the viewer.

We suggest the five basic categories to choose from below:

Green - moving yourself: tips on what you can do as individual climate activist

Blue - informing on climate change through exhibitions, documentaries, seminars, art interventions ..

Orange - debating: arranging workshops and similar activities where climate action is debated

Purple - changing your house policies like sustainability audit, waste, renewable energy, green events only, veggie canteen, etc.

Yellow - advocating as political climate activist, raise your institutional voice against climate neglection
