On February 11th, the Boys & Girls Club of the Perham Area and Empowering Kids Perham are teaming up to raise programming funds and increase awareness through the annual Giving Hearts Day fundraiser.
Leading up to Giving Hearts Day, we will be rallying our community to help us Paint the Town Red by encouraging you, our business partners and community members, to spread the word about our organizations and Giving Hearts Day.
We are promoting and raising awareness together, but donations need to be designated to each organization individually.
Boys & Girls Club of the Perham Area
This fundraiser will be a kick-off for our fundraising efforts as we prepare to move into the Hub later this year. We are extremely excited about this move and the benefits it will provide for our organization, members, and community as a whole. Our new site will include additional space for us to serve more youth, a dedicated teen space, and a beautiful gym space. Having a gym will allow us to provide additional large motor and movement activities for our members when the weather is less than ideal.
The Club’s Giving Hearts Day 2021 campaign goal is $30,000. Funds raised this year will be used to purchase equipment for our gym in our new space. This is the first time in our ten year history that we will have dedicated gym space so our list of needs is expansive! It includes foosball and air hockey tables, 4 square ping pong table, standard ping pong table, arcade basketball game, scooters, a large assortment of balls, hula hoops, scooters, goal nets, a sound system, and storage units.
EMPOWERING KIDS PERHAM
Our vision is to provide a life of hope, happiness, dignity, and purpose for individuals with autism and other social challenges; this vision does not end when our Empowered Kids graduate from high school. Did you know that more than half of young adults with autism remain unemployed and unenrolled in higher education in the two years after high school, and nearly half of 25-year-olds with autism have never held a paying job? Empowering Kids is passionate about impacting these statistics.
Our one of a kind Hub space has been specifically designed to meet the needs of individuals that have autism across their lifespan. Part of this space will include an Employment Lab and a full mock apartment. With a campaign goal of $20,000, all donations received on Giving Hearts Day will go towards purchasing items for these new spaces. Items include:
Employment Lab – Chairs, tables, computers, Project Discovery curriculum kits, laser printer, 3d printer, hand and power tools, shelving, storage, and supplies.
Mock Apartment – couch, recliner, side and coffee tables, entertainment center, bed, bedding, dishes, pots and pans, phone, cooking and eating utensils, small appliances, grill, dresser, lamps, rugs, TV, desk, and an office chair. (Major appliances for this space are being paid for through the renovation grant)
