Time-resolved X-선 회절 측정을 통하여 Epsilon-질화철의 반응 과정 관찰
기존의 질화철 합성에는 약 100초 이상의 시간이 필요한 것으로 알려져 있지만 XFEL을 이용하여 고압 하에서 수 microsecond 이내에 합성을 유도
합성과 동시에 고체-기체간의 화합물이 생성되는 과정을 443 ns 간격으로 X선 회절을 측정하여 물질 합성 메커니즘 해석을 위한 데이터 확보
이와 같이 최첨단 대형연구시설을 이용한 극한환경에서 전이금속-기체 간의 새로운 화학반응-화합물 발견 및 반응 메커니즘을 규명할 수 있는 가능성 제시

Kaolin group 광물 중 하나인 Nacrite의 초수화 현상을 관찰하기 위한 실시간 고압 X-선 회절 실험 수행
Kaolinite와 유사하게 3 GPa, 200 C의 조건에서 물의 결정 구조내 층간 유입으로 인한 초수화 현상이 관찰됨
압력을 해제하면 초수화되었던 물이 모두 구조에서 빠져나오는 Kaolnite와는 달리 Nacrite의 경우 층간에 일부 물이 남아 8.4 A의 (001) 회절 피크를 형성함
측정된 X-선 회절 패턴을 이용한 결정구조 분석을 통하여 Nacrite의 층간에 남아 있는 물이 Nacrite 층 구조를 구성하는 산소와 6 배위를 이루며 Bilayer Ice와 유사한 강력한 결합을 하고 있는 것을 규명

섭입대의 온도-압력 환경을 모사하여 주요 해양 퇴적 광물 중 하나인 Kaolinite에 대한 물과의 반응 연구를 수행
찬 섭입대(Cold subduction zone)의 75km 깊이에 해당하는 온도-압력인 2.5 GPa, 200 C에서 물의 Kaolinite 층간 유입으로 인한 초수화 현상이 관찰
실시간 고온-고압 X-선 회절 및 적외선 분광을 통하여 초수화된 Kaolinite의 결정 구조 및 층간 물의 양 도출
> 초수화 Kaolinite는 전체 질량의 약 30 %를 물로 가지고 있으며 이는 현재 알려진 Silicate 중 가장 많은 물을 포함하고 있음
섭입대의 온도-압력 조건을 따라 초수화 Kaolinite의 안정 영역 및 단계적 분해 현상을 관찰. 이를 통해 지구 내부로의 물 운반 및 지질학적 이벤트 (지진, 화산)에 대한 새로운 발생 메커니즘을 제시할 수 있을것으로 기대
