September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month (CCAM) around the world. Our goal is to raise awareness in our community while supporting the students and families of GISD who are affected by this life-altering diagnosis.

Eighth grade, Benold Middle School
In 2013, Riley was diagnosed with neuroblastoma 4S at the age of six weeks old. He completed treatment at Cook Children's Hospital in Ft. Worth, and has shown no evidence of disease (NED) for thirteen years. Riley loves drawing, playing games, and hanging out with his dog Jasper.
Pickett Elementary
Marissa was a third grader at Pickett Elementary when she was diagnosed with kidney renal carcinoma in 2013 at the age of nine. She loved softball and cheerleading. Marissa gained her angel wings on January 28, 2015.
Fourth grade, Ford Elementary
Elliott was diagnosed with Stage IV Wilms Tumor in 2020 at the age of three. She will be turning 10 years old this year and has no evidence of disease (NED). She loves all things soccer and is excited to be starting her second year with Georgetown Soccer Association (GSA). In her free time you can find her in the backyard working with her dog Zoey, and sharpening her footwork!
Freshman, Georgetown High School
Ellie was diagnosed with JGCT, an extremely rare form of ovarian cancer, in 2019 at the age of seven. She has had no evidence of disease (NED) since October 2019. Ellie is on the Freshman Cheer Team, involved with her youth group, and she enjoys spending time with friends and family.
2025 Georgetown High School Graduate
Adeline was diagnosed with a rare form of T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia in 2020 at the age of 13. She achieved remission in the fall of 2020 and completed her treatment in December 2023. During and after her treatment, Adeline has become a passionate advocate for children with cancer. She has traveled to the Capitol twice to advocate for pediatric cancer legislation, including once while she was still on active treatment. Adeline graduated from GHS in 2025 and is attending Kansas State University, where she is studying public health and political science. Her experiences as a pediatric cancer patient and advocate have shaped her desire to continue advocating for children and families affected by cancer and to incorporate this work into her future career.
Fourth grade, San Gabriel Elementary
At just 18 months old, Scout was diagnosed with gliobastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer. Since then, she has undergone six brain surgeries, endured chemotherapy, participated in clinical trials, experienced a stroke, battled seizures, and faced radiation necrosis. In the summer of 2024, Scout was declared cancer free- a milestone her family will forever celebrate.
While cancer is a part of her story, it does not define who she is. Scout has a heart for animals and loves helping care for the two dogs, two cats, four goats, and two ponies at her home. She looks up to her older brother, Samson, and because of him, you'll be hard-pressed to find a bigger football fan. Scout is determined, resilient, and loves working hard to overcome challenges and celebrate every victory along the way.
Although her cancer is gone, its lasting effects remain a daily reminder of the journey she has endured. The challenges didn't end with treatment, but neither did Scout's courage. Seeing her friends, teachers, and the entire GISD community Go Gold each September reminds ther that she is never fighting alone. Their love and support inspire her to keep moving forward with hope, strength, and a smile.
Georgetown High School
Madelyn was a sophomore at Georgetown High School when she was diagnosed in 2017 with pleomorphic xanthoastrocytoma (PXA) grade 3/4. Madelyn was an athletic trainer at GHS. She was an excellent student and member of the National Honor Society with aspirations of becoming a physical therapist. She loved animals from an early age, and volunteered at the Williamson County Animal Shelter. Madelyn gained her angel wings on January 20, 2018.
Fourth grade, Ford Elementary
Brix has been battling acute myeloid leukemia (a type of blood cancer) since 2022. After relapsing in February 2024, he received a bone marrow transplant on April 17, 2024 and has been in remission for two years, with the hopes of being forever cancer free.
He has spent much of his school aged years in hospitals and clinics, but through it all, Brix continues to choose positivity and never gives up. He loves all sports, especially football and basketball, and is a huge Cincinnati Bengals fan.
When he's not playing sports, he enjoys making people laugh, drawing, playing with his dogs, playing Xbox, and hanging out with his sister and friends. We are so proud of his strength, resilience, and the joy he continues to bring to everyone around him.
Sixth grade, Wagner Middle School
In 2020 at the age of four, Genesis was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. She is in remission and off treatment. Genesis loves cheerleading and drawing.
Eighth grade, Tippit Middle School
Keagan was 14 months old when she was diagnosed with Wilms Tumor in 2015. She had a right nephrectomy and completed six months of chemo. She is currently 12 years old and cancer free. Keagan is very active and loves trying new sports. She enjoys playing her ukulele and volleyball.
DJ was diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma at the age of two. DJ loved to learn, especially about the solar system. He was a fun-loving and kind hearted boy who was looking forward to attending Williams Elementary School. DJ gained his angel wings on September 30, 2022 at the age of four years old, 11 months before he would have started kindergarten.
2022 Georgetown High School Graduate
Ella was diagnosed with papillary thyroid cancer in 2021 at the age of 17. She graduated from Georgetown High School one year later in 2022. Ella is currently no evidence of disease. In May of 2026, she graduated summa cum laude from Texas Tech University and is currently attending graduate school at Tech.
Village Elementary
On July 16, 2019 at the age of six years old, Alexis was diagnosed with diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma (DIPG). Alexis was heading into her first grade year at Village Elementary. She was a very fun-loving and kind girl who loved school, participating in dance classes, attending church, Disney princesses, and JoJo Siwa. Her kindergarten teacher once commented on how kind Alexis was to other students and never left anyone out. Alexis gained her angel wings on July 16, 2020 at the age of seven years old.
Greg "Trey"
Sophomore, East View High School
Trey was diagnosed with a synovial cell sarcoma of the right chest wall in May 2024. He underwent a complete resection and then chemotherapy and radiation therapy. He completed treatment in October of 2024 and remains cancer free. Trey loves football, especially the Texas Longhorns and Dallas Cowboys. He is active in choir/Glee, basketball and baseball. He enjoys family time, playing video games, hanging with friends, riding his e-bike and being involved with senior high youth ministry at Zion Lutheran church.
Fifth grade, Ford Elementary
Maya was near the end of her 2nd grade year in 2023 when she was diagnosed with t-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Maya completed her treatment in October of 2025 and rang the bell on November 13, 2025. Maya loves talking with people and learning about animals. You will rarely find her sitting quietly, as she is upbeat, chatty, and full of energy. Maya always brings a smile to those around her.
2024 Georgetown High School Graduate
Bailey was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma in 2023 during her senior year at Georgetown High School. She graduated in 2024 and is now cancer free. She is a junior at Utah Valley University studying finance. Bailey loves working out, hiking, traveling, and spending time with friends and family.
2025 East View High School Graduate
Abel was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia on April 15, 2011 at the age of five. He achieved remission in 2015 and continues to be in remission today. Abel graduated from East View High School in 2025.
Georgetown High School
Carrie was diagnosed with adrenocortical cancer in the fall of 2023 during her sophomore year at Georgetown High School. Carrie was well known among her family and friends as an avid baker, and it was her goal in life to own her own bakery. In the months before she learned of her cancer diagnosis, she obtained her Texas Food Handler's license and started her own home baking business. Even once her illness prevented her from attending school, she continued to bake, making more than a thousand delicious treats which she shared, free of charge, with friends, family, and community members. Carried passed away on July 28th, 2024. She will forever be remembered as a young woman of incredible kindness, intelligence, and generosity.
Fifth grade, Williams Elementary
Mia was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) on December 3, 2024. Since her diagnosis, she has shown incredible strength and bravery, reminding everyone around her just how special she is. Now a 5th grader at Williams Elementary, Mia is smart, sweet, and outgoing, with the biggest heart. She is always willing to go the extra mile for others and loves crafts, the color blue, and her hamster.
Fourth grade, San Gabriel Elementary
Jasper was diagnosed with B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia on November 17, 2021 when he was just four years old. His journey included countless procedures, spinal taps, port surgeries, hospital stays, and infections. After more than two and a half years of treatment, Jasper proudly rang the bell on May 22, 2024.
Today, Jasper remains in remission and has been off treatment for more than two years. He continues to attend routine oncology appointments to monitor his health, but he is thriving and enjoying life as a fourth grader. He especially loves playing hockey, spending time with his family, and fishing.
Through every challenge, Jasper has shown incredible strength, courage, and resilience. He is a true fighter and an inspiration to everyone who knows him.
