Samsung Scx 4300 Scanner Software For Mac

After performing an update to the Samsung printer drivers (to these ones), my scanner for the Samsung SCX-4300 stopped working. When I load the scanning software (print and fax), all I receive is a grey screen. The Apple page for the Samsung printer software now says that the SCX-4300 can only print, not scan (see here). Reinstalling an earlier version of the driver from the Samsung website doesn't help. I cannot revert to an earlier system because I don't have Time Machine activated (I know this is kindof stupid on my part, but in my many years of computer I've honestly never needed it before).

I had the same problem, which I fixed by following a mix of instructions from this forum. The latest update from apple included samsung drives which created the problem once again and I repeated my steps to fix it again.

7. Download samsung scanner software from website. I had downloaded v2.2 for OS X 10.7.3 and have reused it, which does the job. The latest version seems to be v3.0 I think, which I haven't tried out yet.

Sounds like the belt or gears that transport the scanner head are slipping/jumping cogs. Depending on your dexterity you may be able to fix this yourself but more than likely it will be a service call.

It may be that somehow it has gotten out of sync and the scanner is attempting to return to a certain position yet it is already there, thus it is pushing up against a stop and the only thing that will give is gears popping. It is also possible that there is a location sensor (micro-switch/opto switch) that has gone bad so it wont start the actual scan procedure until it sees it at home position (again, it is already there but doesn't know it)

This strip is used by the scanner to read the home position. If this strip is dirty the scanner cannot read the home disposition and therefore it will keep moving the scanner to the left, making that bang sound and after a while displaying SCANNER ERROR message.

Hi everyone. I installed Arch Linux today. Everything is fine except printer. I am using Samsung SCX-4300 printer and scanner. Scanner works fine but CUPS doesn't see the printer. I can't see anything on CUPS web interface's Local Printers area. Here is a screenshot.

@mcloaked Thanks so much for this answer! I created a file to /etc/udev/rules.d/71-scx4300.rules. Added the line which you wrote down and configured for me. After that I rebooted the system and I saw my printer at CUPS page. I used Samsung's filter and ppd files and problem solved. Now printer and scanner working great together. Thanks so much again!

Great - and one comment - yes I also originally used the samsung files - but now I use the splix driver - which seems to work well. I do have the samsung raster file though and perhaps I should have mentioned that in my initial reply. Glad you got it working.

I have a Samsung SCX-4300. The printer has a common problem when turning on power it moves the scanner unit but then a rattling sound occurs followed by a scanner error. This being because the printer is trying to find the zero position for the scanner by scanning a pattern below the glass. If that does not work the scanner will not stop the motor, the scanner runs into an endstop and the rattling is the belt motor still pulling the belt against the endstop.

If you're using Windows and you've installed a Samsung driver, VueScan's built-in drivers won't conflict with this. If you haven't installed a Windows driver for this scanner, VueScan will automatically install a driver.

Once installed we test whether this scanner also works to open the program Simple Scan.

If this does not work try to open the program Samsung unified driver configurator and scan from there and then I worked on Simple Scan.

I'm using a Samsung X4300 MultiXpress, using the Samsung Universal Print Driver. The issue is that the printer defaults to Letter instead of A4; I've edited the Normal setting in the Printing Preferences setting, but it never sticks- once I try to print something, it always defaults back to Letter.

When I start my SCX-4300, printer is OK, but from scanner I can hear sound as ta-ta-ta-ta-ta-ta. It has duration about one minute, than it stop and on display is writing "scanner error". The scanner does not ready, does not work. What can I do with the problem?

:))) man, I just stunned by all the answer I find out on google. The solution is very simple:

Just open up the scanner glass (it has some plastic clips on sides) and make sure to clean that white strip.
