Exercise: "The Group Weekend Plan" (Group Negotiation Role-Play)
Context: Six friends need to make a plan for this Saturday. Everyone has different pieces of information and different preferences. You must talk to each other to find a plan that works for everyone.
Goal: Practice confirmation checks, clarification requests, and rephrasing to share and confirm information.
Student Roles & Secret Information
Each student has one or two pieces of secret information. They must share this information when asked, but they cannot just show their card to the group. They must use English.
Student 1: Movie Expert
Secret Info: The movie you want to see is "Avatar".
Secret Info: The best showtime is 2:30 PM.
Your Preference: You really want to see the movie.
Student 2: Food Lover
Secret Info: The group has a reservation for dinner at 7:00 PM.
Secret Info: The restaurant is Italian.
Your Preference: You are allergic to seafood. You must check if the restaurant has other options.
Student 3: Location Manager
Secret Info: The movie theater and the restaurant are in the same building (the Lotte Mall).
Your Preference: You think this is very convenient! You want everyone to know this.
Student 4: Transportation Manager
Secret Info: Everyone should meet at Gangnam Station.
Secret Info: The meeting point is at Exit 11.
Your Preference: You will be late. You cannot meet before 1:00 PM.
Student 5: Activity Planner
Secret Info: Before the movie, there is time for shopping.
Your Preference: You don't like Italian food. You want to suggest adding a Korean cafe after dinner.
Student 6: Budget Keeper
Secret Info: The movie ticket costs ₩15,000.
Your Preference: You think the plan is getting expensive. You want to confirm the total cost for everyone.

Useful Phrases for the Discussion
To ask for information:

For confirmation checks:
"So, the movie is at 2:30? Right?"

For clarification requests:
"Pardon me, which exit did you say?"
"Can you repeat the movie time, please?"
For rephrasing:
"Okay, so in other words, we can see the movie and eat dinner in the same place. Is that clear?"
"Let me check. First we meet, then we shop, then we see the movie. Okay?"
