Pine’s Lottery Story
Pine was not a gambler, but one evening he bought a lottery ticket for 17.70 dollars.
The ticket number was 100,100.
At first, Pine thought he had only won 1,100 dollars.
He was happy, but then he checked again — it was actually 100,100,100 dollars!
The announcer shouted:
“Pine, you are the winner of 100,100,100 dollars —
that’s one hundred million, one hundred thousand, one hundred.”
After taxes, Pine received 70,000,000.13 dollars.
He bought a small island for 17,000,000 dollars.
His new boat cost 44,444.44 dollars.
He gave 13,000 to his cousin, and he donated 30,000,000 to a children’s hospital.
One reporter asked Pine how he felt.
He laughed and said, “Last year, my bank account had only 100 dollars.
Now my account balance is over 17,000,000,000.”
He also set up a new phone line for business calls: 010 9900 2211.
He read it clearly for the cameras:
“Oh one oh, double nine double zero, double two, double one.”
