Meg’s Lottery Story
Meg had always dreamed of winning the lottery.
Her favorite numbers were 17, 70, 13, and 30.
She bought a ticket for 19.99 dollars.
Her ticket number was 110,155,666.
When she checked, she thought she had won 1,100 dollars.
Her heart raced — she imagined buying a new car.
But then she looked closer.
It was only 100 dollars.
The announcer read the results:
“First prize goes to ticket 110,115,666 …”
Meg gasped. That was her number!
But then he said, “Second prize, not first.”
She received just 70.70 dollars after fees.
Meg was heartbroken.
She had already dreamed of a house worth 17,080,000 dollars,
a donation of 30,000,000 to charity,
and savings of 17,000,800,000 in the bank.
Instead, she had 44.44 dollars left.
When her friend asked for her new phone number,
she gave it quietly: 010 7700 3300.
She read it softly:
“Oh one oh, double seven double zero, double three, double zero.”
Meg sighed and said,
“Last week, I had 13.00 dollars in my account.
Now, even after playing, I still have only 13.00.”
