Through the 1961 soccer period, I was a 17 year old experiencing my summer vacation before entering my elderly year of large school. Mickey Mantle was my hero. On May 26th in his 128th game Maris strike Number 51. He was now eight games in front of the Ruth velocity and the anticipation of what can occur was growing every day.Around once, Commissioner Toyota Frick ruled an asterisk would be put alongside Maris'title in the report books if he broke the Babe's report after the 154th game of the season.After 134 games, Maris remained at 51 house runs and Mantle at 48. However for Maris he was not the people's selection to separate the 34-year-old record. Most Yankees fans were rooting for his home-grown teammate, Mickey Mantle. But disease forced the Mick from the battle in September, and he finished with 54 homers.
