Law Reformation in UAE, Subjects to Ponder On

To improve the standard of living and hold up the position for the best country to dwell in and invest in, UAE has revised its legal system this November. Law has been reformed in several criterias which includes changes in divorce, assault, harassment, jointly-owned assets, and bounce cheques.

UAE has overhauled prosecutions for couple living without marriage and alcohol consumption, although this has been a rare case already, but the new law has removed least of uncertainty to live in peace and harmony.

Many of the new laws had been on discussion and finally have been implemented recently. According to the former Chief Justice of Dubai’s Criminal Courts, any ammendments to the legal system must serve a goal which is to allure new talents and investors for the prosperity of the country in the long run.

As a place for multi religious mass the UAE Government is trying to build place of coexistence and harmony. To achieve this goal the authority has to ensure security and cultural adaptation for the multicultural communities that can coexist with Islamic culture.

“They have also led to increasing residents’ sense of security, which is another goal that reflects the UAE’s efforts to promote tolerance and coexistence.”

Mr Saif said changes to the law governing marital disputes were not against Islam.

“We have residents following different faiths, and Islam does not prohibit them from resorting to the rules of their religions," he said.

This reformation has made UAE more suitable for living in as it shows the country’s commitment to make it better place for new investors. Mr. Saif has mentioned that latest surveys say that a huge number of people think UAE is their first choice to reside in and making investments.

The court also welcoming people to settle down disputes over family-owned assets which has reduced big problems.

“Owners of family businesses were not allowed to sell their share of the business to anyone except to one of the owners themselves,” Dr Hassan Elhais, a legal consultant from Al Rowaad Advocates has said. He has noticed a large number of dispute has disappeared due to courts authority to selling family properties to outside people.

The new amendment has already reduced the number of cases in the court. UAE is looking forward to more corrections over time where the aim is to bring the cases to the lowest possible number.
