Privacy Policy – Gerrit Link Scraper
Last updated: 2025-11-28
This Privacy Policy describes how the Gerrit Link Scraper Chrome extension (“the Extension”, “we”, “our”, or “us”) handles information when you install and use it.
If you do not agree with this policy, please do not use the Extension.
1. Overview
Gerrit Link Scraper is a productivity tool that helps users extract Gerrit change links (including “Cherry picks” and “Relation chain” links) from Gerrit web pages.
The Extension runs entirely in the user’s browser and is designed to operate only on Gerrit-related pages. It does not send any page content or personal data to external servers.
2. Data We Collect
The Extension does not collect, store, or transmit any personally identifiable information (PII) about you.
Specifically:
We do not collect your name, email address, account identifiers, or passwords.
We do not collect or track your browsing history across websites.
We do not use analytics, tracking pixels, or third-party advertising SDKs.
All processing happens locally in your browser’s memory.
3. How the Extension Works
When you use the Extension:
It runs on Gerrit-related pages (for example, URLs that contain “gerrit” or “review”).
It scans the currently open Gerrit page to find Gerrit change links, such as “Cherry picks” and “Relation chain”.
The extracted links and related metadata (branch name, change ID, subject, URL) are shown to you in the popup UI, copied to your clipboard, or exported as CSV only when you explicitly trigger these actions (e.g., click the extension icon, use the context menu, or click the inline button).
All of this processing is done locally in your browser. We do not send this information to any server controlled by us or by third parties.
4. Use of Browser Permissions
The Extension requests the following Chrome permissions:
activeTab
Used to access the content of the currently active tab only when you interact with the extension (popup, context menu, or inline button). This is required to read Gerrit page content and extract Gerrit change links.
scripting
Used to inject lightweight content scripts into Gerrit pages so that the Extension can scan the DOM for “Cherry picks” and “Relation chain” links.
clipboardWrite
Used to copy generated Gerrit URLs or TSV/CSV content to your clipboard only when you click a copy button or context-menu entry.
contextMenus
Used to add right-click menu entries that allow you to copy Gerrit links directly from a Gerrit page.
storage
Used to store your optional configuration inside chrome.storage (for example, the list of branches you want to filter by). This data is stored locally in your browser profile and is not transmitted to any server.
tabs
Used to query information about the currently active tab (such as tab ID and URL) so that we can run the scraping logic on the correct Gerrit page.
The Extension does not use these permissions to read or modify data on non-Gerrit sites, nor to track your activity.
If your manifest still includes notifications, you can add:
notifications (if used)
Used only to show local notifications about the success or failure of extension actions. No data is sent to external services.
5. Data Sharing and Third Parties
We do not share any data processed by the Extension with third parties.
No data is sent to remote servers operated by us.
No data is sent to advertising networks, analytics providers, or other third-party services.
All data remains within your browser session, except for configuration data stored via chrome.storage and the content you explicitly copy to your clipboard.
6. Data Retention
The only persistent data the Extension keeps is configuration data that you explicitly set (for example, your preferred branch list). This configuration is stored in chrome.storage and remains on your device until you:
change the configuration, or
uninstall the Extension, or
clear your browser data.
No browsing content, Gerrit page content, or user identifiers are persistently stored by the Extension.
7. Security
Because the Extension does not transmit data to any external services, your data primarily remains within your local browser environment.
However, you should still:
Keep your browser and operating system up to date.
Restrict access to your device and browser profile.
Only install the Extension from trusted sources (such as the official Chrome Web Store listing).
8. Children’s Privacy
The Extension is a developer productivity tool intended for use by adults in a professional environment. It does not target children and does not knowingly collect any personal information from children.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in functionality or applicable laws. Any changes will be published on this page with an updated “Last updated” date.
If we make material changes, we may also update the Chrome Web Store listing to reference the new version.
