Welcome to the GMU Observatory. We're glad you chose to study Astronomy. If you haven't read about the observatory, please visit About page to find useful information about us.
Please note you may only take lab tour at the designated time slots or the make-up tours to fulfill the lab assignment: Observatory Visit. Attending a public hour or an Evening Under the Stars CANNOT be used to complete the assignment, although you are welcome to participate those events just for fun : )
Please use the following Zoom link to join the lab tour.

Always check your email or this page to ensure that a lab tour was not canceled. We do not cancel a lab tour if it just rains, but in some case, we cancel a tour because of severe weather.
Wear close-toed shoes, and outdoor-weather appropriate clothing.
Only observatory staff can let you onto the roof of Research Hall where the observatory is located. Our staff will only look for you in the lobby (1st floor) of Research Hall.
If you try to take the stairs/elevator to the roof/4th floor you will not be able to access the observatory and we will not be able to locate you.
Tours start promptly on their designated start times. If you are late for a tour: you will not be able to access the roof and you will be required to sign up for a backup tour. Therefore, be on time!
All light sources are prohibited inside the observatory dome during viewing.
Light from the following sources affect others' night vision and will negatively impact viewing.
Cell-Phones
Flash Cameras / Camera Screens
Flash Lights
Light-up shoes or other apparel.
We ask you only use these items in-between viewing when we are moving to a new object.
Flash photography is prohibited until the end of the tour. You may ask one of the observatory staff when it is okay to take pictures.
Children under the age of 5 are not permitted on the Observatory Roof.
Smoking/Vaping is prohibited.
Be respectful and listen to the observatory staff.
You must stay until the end of a lab tour to get attendance. If you have to leave early, you should plan to attend the lab tour at another allocated time.
If you have questions about the lab tours, please feel free to contact the Observatory at gmuobservatory@gmail.com
