The generic ASIO driver comes in play when there are no real ASIO driver ( onboard audio?), it wraps the wdm to use as ASIO.

Anyway, deleting the Steinberg Generic ASIO driver is not enough, but, going into the Regedit program as described took care of my problem with WL - and for that I am very grateful to you and your post!! Thank you!!

I have a freshly installed Windows 7 box (upgraded to Windows 10 to get the machine made eligible, now reinstalling). I have a cheap wifi dongle. I do not know the manufacturer, nor where the driver dvd is. Plugged into the machine running Linux, it just works. It is small, black, and has 802.11n printed on it in white writing, and there are no other identifying markers. (For reference, it looks a bit like one of these: -mini-usb-wifi-adapter-802-11-b-g-n-wi/250459680.html)

That gives you a good chance of finding something. I found a .cab file via devid.info, copied it to the machine, extracted all the files to a folder, then in the Device Manager right click on the unknown device, click Update Driver Software, select the option to browse your machine, and point it to the folder you unpacked the drivers to.

To delete these drivers from a machine without having to mess around with the registry, open the Print Management Tool and the Services control panel. Highlight the driver you want to delete. Stop the print spooler service, then start the print server service. QUICKLY! BEFORE the print spooler has finished starting up, click on the header of the Print Management Tool and then tap the DELETE key and then the ENTER key rapidly 3 to 8 times like a machine gun. If you see no error message (success), right-click in the white space in the driver list and select REFRESH. It should disappear.

I was able to correct the problem by exporting the selected branches listed above from a working computer, and importing them into the affected one, then rebooted the system. After the reboot, I checked the properties again for the Xerox WorkCentre 5755 PCL6 drivers, and all of the dependent files were now listed in there.

None of the other dependent files are listed in there. I compared the properties with a working computer, and found that there should be 30+ files in the drive properties of that printer. The computer in question does have the files physically installed in the correct location C:\WINDOWS\system32\spool\DRIVERS\x64\3\, but they are just not listed in the driver properties.

Changing the print on both sides feature does not seem to affect whether or not the printer prints single or double sided. Neither has removing and reinstalling the printer resolved the issue. This also occurs with both PCL and PS drivers. We are all using the same version of Windows 7. What causes users to get one window instead of the other?

I've been trying to use my line printers for wide format source code listing recently, I was able to load these drivers on Windows 10. But for some reason, after upgrading to Windows 11, when trying to use the printer I had previously set up on lpt1 as a generic/text only printer, it wouldn't let me use it. I tried to reinstall it - the process fails, giving me the "Unable to install printer. Cannot complete this function." It doesn't matter whether or not I use the existing driver or replace the current driver. I've restarted the print spooler service, I've edited the registry to remove the current printer drivers, and removed the necessary spool files. Is there something I'm missing or has backwards compatibility for this 40 year old standard finally been removed?

it looks like you have to add generic printer device through device manager.

What I did is go into Device Mangeer -> Printers, right clicked on any of the printers, selected update driver, then Let me pick, for me Generic printer device.

Even with that it still did not let me use that generic printer device driver that was installed :(

I am trying to get winme running on a gigabyte ga-ma69vm-s2 motherboard. This thing was made around the time of vista and only has driver support for xp and vista. Not for 9x. It uses some ati onboard graphics. My res in me is fixed to 16colors 640x480.. I dont intend to game on this but would like to at least be able to use 1024x768 in more than 16 colors... is there any generic windows vga driver that works with intigrated gpu on winme? I mean it is using a generic driver to give me this.. maybe i can get a little more..

Keep in mind that this VBE driver can not even do simple DirectDraw, so it's really limited to the Windows GUI. And software that renders graphics (e.g. browsers) will be damn slow, since they can not use any sort of hardware acceleration.

I'm having trouble with the windows drivers provided by AMD. I now have built two machines: let's call them Alpha (1xHD5450, 3xHD6990) with 7 GPUs, and Beta (8xHD7970) with 8 GPUs. I got Alpha working under windows after some trouble; I still haven't got Beta working under windows so any help is appreciated.

Alas, windows updates does not propose me to install HD7970 drivers. So the fourth thing that solved it for Alpha, doesn't work here. Under Linux (Ubuntu 12.04), OpenCL sees all 8 cards, so there's no hardware problem. It's purely a problem with the AMD graphics drivers for windows (or at least win7 64-bit). e24fc04721
