If you want a rugged, over-ear gaming setup with dual sound profiles for long sessions on your Steam Deck or PS5, choose Generic Sonicast PRO Reference; if you need a lightweight, studio-grade planar monitor with surgical bass control and an ultra-comfortable fit for marathon listening, choose Hidizs MP145.
• Generic Sonicast PRO Reference: Its biggest strength is the durable over-ear design with replaceable MMCX connectors and dual tuning modes (SL/DL) for versatile gaming and critical listening; its trade-off is the wired-only nature and larger physical footprint that may not suit everyone. It is perfect for gamers who prioritize durability and specific sound signatures for immersive play.
• Hidizs MP145: Its biggest strength lies in its advanced 14.5mm planar magnetic driver delivering holographic soundstage and extreme lightness at just 9.5g per earpiece; its trade-off is the lack of active features and reliance on passive noise cancellation. It is ideal for audiophiles seeking reference-quality transparency and all-day comfort without weight.
The Generic Sonicast PRO Reference is built for the person who treats their audio gear as a tool for serious engagement rather than just casual background noise. The defining feature here is the over-ear housing paired with soft twist cables and replaceable MMCX connectors. This isn't just about looks; it's about fatigue management during those three-hour raid nights or extended study sessions where standard in-ears start to ache. The over-ear design locks into the ear cup rather than pushing deep into the canal, which can be a game-changer for people who find traditional IEMs uncomfortable after an hour.
For those looking for head phones for big head scenarios or simply needing a secure fit that doesn't rely on pressure inside the ear, this design philosophy makes sense. The unit comes with ORZA Tips and supports two distinct acoustic profiles. The SL mode focuses on clarity and spatial balance, making it excellent for competitive gaming where hearing footsteps or directional cues matters. Switching to DL mode unleashes the full potential of the Bass Control Cover, refining sub-bass performance for cinematic effects and kick drums. If you play games with heavy soundtracks or watch movies on your laptop, having that depth without muddying the vocals is a significant advantage.

You should buy this model if you value technical precision backed by individual measurement data. Every unit is hand-assembled in Korea and tested with Klippel systems, meaning you get a frequency response chart that tells you exactly what you are getting. The 4th Generation SF-DRIVER delivers twice the acoustic power of previous generations, ensuring that even smartphone-level outputs can drive the drivers effectively without losing dynamics. However, you should skip this if you need wireless freedom or if you prefer something that sits entirely inside the ear canal for a discreet look. The wired connection and over-ear form factor mean you are committing to a stationary or controlled environment where the cable length and connector type won't be a hindrance.
The Hidizs MP145 Pro targets the listener who demands reference-grade accuracy in a package that feels like it isn't there at all. At just 9.5 grams per earpiece, this is one of the lightest options available, yet it houses a massive 14.5mm planar diaphragm. The engineering here is focused on transient response and detail retrieval. The upgraded N54H magnetic arrays provide 40% stronger flux density, which translates to faster movement of the diaphragm and a level of micro-detail that dynamic drivers often struggle to match. If you are listening to complex orchestral pieces, high-resolution jazz, or production mixes, the "holographic realism" mentioned in the specs is not marketing fluff; it is the result of precise magnetic circuitry and a transparent midrange that avoids coloration.
Comfort is a major selling point for the Hidizs MP145, specifically for those who wear headphones for hours. The ergonomic contours are designed to create a pillow-soft, locked-in fit that eliminates ear fatigue. Unlike many heavy IEMs that press against the cartilage, the MP145 uses optimized chambers and redesigned acoustic tubes to distribute weight and airflow efficiently. This makes it an excellent choice for the best wireless sports earbuds alternative for big head users who actually need to move around, provided they don't mind the wired connection. The inclusion of exclusive Sea Anemone eartips ensures a snug seal without the painful pressure points common with generic silicone tips.
You should buy this model if you are a purist who wants to hear exactly what was recorded. The planar magnetic driver offers a soundstage width that is unmatched by standard dynamic drivers, creating a sense of space that puts instruments exactly where they belong in a mix. The treble extends with silky airiness, and the bass remains tight and controlled with zero mud. However, you must accept the limitations of passive noise cancellation and the lack of active features. If you need a microphone built directly into the earbud for calls on the go, you will need to check compatibility with external mic setups, as the focus here is purely on audio fidelity. The 3.5mm and 4.4mm jack options give you flexibility, but you are still tethered to your source device.

In my opinion, if you are buying a pair of earphones specifically for big head comfort and long gaming marathons, the Generic Sonicast PRO Reference is the clear winner because the over-ear design solves the pain points of standard in-ears. However, if your priority is pure sound quality, reference monitoring, and a feeling of zero weight during long listening sessions, the Hidizs MP145 is the superior tool. I would personally choose the Hidizs MP145 for music and critical listening because the planar magnetic driver provides a level of detail that changes how you hear your favorite tracks, whereas the Sonicast is better suited for the specific demands of gaming and media consumption where bass depth and secure fit are paramount. Both are exceptional wired solutions, but they serve different masters.
Neither of these models is wireless; both are strictly wired. While neither is marketed specifically as a "sports" earbud, the Hidizs MP145's lightweight design and secure fit make it more suitable for active use than the bulkier over-ear Sonicast, though you should always check for sweat resistance ratings before intense workouts.
The provided data sheets do not list built-in microphones for call functionality on either the Sonicast PRO Reference or the Hidizs MP145. They are designed primarily for high-fidelity audio playback and monitoring, so you would likely need an external solution or a splitter for voice communication.
The Hidizs MP145 relies on passive noise cancellation through its ergonomic fit and included Sea Anemone eartips to block out ambient sound, while the Sonicast PRO Reference uses an over-ear design that blocks sound physically by covering the outer ear. For maximum isolation without electronics, the Sonicast's over-ear shape generally offers better passive blocking in very loud environments.
Since pricing fluctuates and is not listed in the technical specifications, you should check the current price on Amazon to see if the budget aligns with your needs. Generally, the added cost of the Hidizs MP145 is justified by the advanced planar magnetic technology and the inclusion of premium accessories like the leather case and specialized eartips.
