If you want a studio-grade open-back headphone for critical mixing and mastering on your PS5 or desktop, choose Generic ATH-R70X; if you need a rugged wireless intercom system for film sets and live events, choose COMICA Seekcom S1. These two devices occupy completely different worlds of audio utility, yet both appear in searches for the best true wireless earbuds for PS5 or rechargeable ear clip headphones for PS5 due to broad keyword confusion. I have analyzed the technical specifications and design intent of each unit to help you decide which piece of hardware actually belongs in your workflow. The ATH-R70X is built for the solitary engineer listening to every nuance of a mix, while the Seekcom S1 is engineered for the chaotic energy of a multi-camera production crew communicating across hundreds of feet.
• Generic ATH-R70X: Offers an ultra-wide frequency response from 5Hz to 40kHz with an open-back design for natural soundstage, but requires a high-impedance amplifier and offers no wireless connectivity.
• COMICA Seekcom S1: Delivers a massive 1640ft wireless range with dual-antenna stability and 12-hour battery life for team communication, though its frequency response is limited to vocal clarity rather than full-spectrum music.
• Who picks ATH-R70X: Audio professionals and audiophiles who prioritize absolute sonic accuracy over portability and need a wired reference tool for their PS5 or studio setup.
• Who picks Seekcom S1: Directors, camera operators, and event coordinators who require reliable, hands-free voice communication across large distances without cable tangles.
The Generic ATH-R70X is a flagship professional open-back reference headphone designed for those who refuse to compromise on sound quality. If you are using this device for your PS5, it transforms the console into a high-fidelity audio workstation, provided you have the right interface. The core of its performance lies in its specially engineered drivers paired with high-efficiency magnets and a pure alloy magnetic circuit. This combination minimizes distortion, ensuring that what you hear is exactly what was recorded, from the deepest bass frequencies down to the sparkling highs. The frequency response spans an incredible 5Hz to 40kHz, capturing details that standard consumer headphones simply cannot reproduce. This makes it an ideal companion for critical listening sessions where missing a subtle artifact could ruin a final mix.

Comfort is not an afterthought here; it is a primary engineering goal. The headset features acoustically transparent aluminum honeycomb housings that enhance open-back performance while keeping the overall weight down to just 7.41 oz. You can wear these for extended studio sessions without the listener fatigue that plagues heavier cans. The improved 3D wing support system automatically adjusts to your head shape, creating a secure fit that feels pressure-free even during marathon recording days. Furthermore, the breathable fabric earpads allow air to circulate, preventing heat buildup around the ears. This level of comfort suggests a product built for long-term focus rather than casual, short bursts of use.
However, this device is not for everyone. The 470 Ohm impedance means you will likely need a dedicated headphone amplifier to drive them properly; plugging them directly into a standard console or phone jack may result in quiet, underpowered sound. The open-back design also means there is no isolation; sound leaks out, and external noise leaks in. If you plan to use this in a noisy coffee shop or a busy household, it will be a frustrating experience. It is strictly a wired solution with a 3.5mm jack, requiring physical cables that tether you to your source. If you value silence and mobility, this professional tool is not the right fit for your needs.
The COMICA Seekcom S1 is a wireless intercom headset system built for the chaos of professional production environments. Unlike the ATH-R70X, which is about listening, the S1 is about talking. Its primary function is to facilitate clear, real-time communication between directors, camera operators, sound teams, and assistants. The system operates on a 2.4GHz wireless protocol with a claimed line-of-sight range of up to 1640 feet (500 meters). This massive range is achieved through a dual-antenna design that intelligently adjusts working bands to reduce interference, making it reliable for large film sets, outdoor events, and live broadcasting where signal stability is paramount.
Clarity in noisy environments is another cornerstone of its design. The S1 features CalMix AI intelligent noise reduction alongside traditional ENC modes, allowing users to switch filters with a single click based on the shooting environment. Whether you are on a windy set or a crowded street, the headset filters background noise to maintain smooth talkback transmission. The frequency response is tuned specifically for human vocals, ranging from 150Hz to 7kHz, ensuring that instructions are understood clearly without the distraction of unnecessary low-end rumble or high-frequency hiss. The OLED display provides intuitive monitoring of signal strength, battery levels, and volume, giving you immediate feedback on your connection status.
Battery life is a major selling point for anyone working long shifts. The integrated headset delivers up to 12 hours of working time, supporting long filming days without the anxiety of power failure. It supports multiple talk modes including TALK, PTT (Push-to-Talk), and MUTE, offering versatility for fast-paced teams. The system also includes a one-key broadcasting feature and a Recorder Mode with one-click ducking, which is incredibly useful for sound recordists who need to manage audio levels instantly. With USB-C digital audio support and compatibility with the Comica control app, it integrates seamlessly into modern digital workflows. While it lacks the wide frequency response of the ATH-R70X, it excels at its specific job: keeping a team connected when words matter more than music.
• Best for battery life → COMICA Seekcom S1, with a guaranteed 12-hour operational window compared to the passive power draw of the ATH-R70X.
• Best for wireless freedom → COMICA Seekcom S1, utilizing 2.4GHz technology for a 1640ft range versus the strict 3.5mm wired connection of the ATH-R70X.
• Best for music fidelity → Generic ATH-R70X, offering a 5Hz-40kHz response and open-back soundstage that the S1's vocal-focused 150Hz-7kHz range cannot match.
• Best for team communication → COMICA Seekcom S1, featuring host/guest switching and multi-group setups for crew coordination.
• Best for critical mixing → Generic ATH-R70X, with its 470 Ohm impedance and high-efficiency magnets designed for distortion-free reference audio.
• Best for noisy environments → COMICA Seekcom S1, equipped with active noise cancellation and AI-driven noise reduction for clear speech.
• Best for long sessions → Generic ATH-R70X, thanks to its lightweight aluminum build and breathable fabric earpads designed for zero fatigue.
• Best for PS5 gaming → Generic ATH-R70X, if you are playing single-player narrative games or competitive titles where spatial audio and detail detection are key.
In my opinion, if you are looking for the best transparency mode wireless earbuds for PS5 or any high-fidelity audio experience on that console, the Generic ATH-R70X is the superior choice, provided you accept the wired limitation. It delivers a level of acoustic detail and spatial awareness that wireless intercoms simply cannot replicate. However, if your definition of "earbuds" involves needing to move around a set or communicate with a team while playing, the COMICA Seekcom S1 is the only logical option. I would buy the Generic ATH-R70X for my own PS5 setup because I value the immersive, accurate soundstage above all else. It turns the console into a reference monitor, whereas the Seekcom S1 remains a specialized tool for industry professionals who need to shout orders across a field.
The Generic ATH-R70X works with the PS5 via a wired 3.5mm connection, often requiring an adapter for optimal performance, while the COMICA Seekcom S1 is not designed for direct PS5 gaming audio and functions as a separate communication channel.
The COMICA Seekcom S1 features active noise reduction with AI modes to filter background chatter for clear speech, whereas the ATH-R70X relies on passive isolation typical of open-back designs and does not block external sound.
Yes, the 470 Ohm impedance of the Generic ATH-R70X typically requires a dedicated headphone amplifier to drive the high-efficiency magnets effectively, unlike the self-powered wireless nature of the Seekcom S1.
The COMICA Seekcom S1 provides up to 12 hours of continuous working time on a single charge, which is sufficient for most long filming days or event shifts without needing a recharge break.
