Both sit in the same corner of the market — in-ear, Bluetooth, touch-controlled, hybrid ANC — yet they aim at two very different buyers. One is a Swiss-army-knife gadget with a screen on the case. The other is a stripped-down workhorse built around microphones and battery.
• Generic AI — biggest strength: a touchscreen charging case that shows live translation subtitles, plus AI two-way translation across 164 languages with no subscription.
• Generic AI — biggest trade-off: the 6-hour single-charge figure is modest, and the extra smart features add complexity some people simply won't use.
• iKmai Earbuds — biggest strength: hybrid ANC rated to cut noise by up to 40dB using 6 MEMS microphones, tuned for clear voice pickup.
• iKmai Earbuds — biggest trade-off: no translation, no locating feature, no camera shutter — it does audio and calls, nothing else.
• Who each pick is for: Generic AI for travellers, language learners and gadget people; iKmai Earbuds for anyone who wants dependable ANC and call clarity, including call center work.
Generic AI is the more unusual product of the two. Its headline feature isn't the audio at all — it's the charging case, which has a built-in HD touchscreen that displays real-time translation subtitles. That means you can read a translation without pulling your phone out of your pocket. The AI engine handles real-time two-way translation across 164 languages, and the translation feature is permanently free, with no subscription attached. There are face-to-face and simultaneous interpretation modes, and the text shows up on both the app and the case screen.
Beyond translation, it's a genuinely loaded package. Hybrid ANC blocks background noise for calls and music. Battery is quoted at up to 40 hours total with the case, with 6 hours average life per charge and a 1-hour charge time. It's IPX7 waterproof and sweatproof, runs Bluetooth 5.4 with roughly 10 metres of range, and uses a 13mm dynamic driver at 16 ohm impedance. There's also an earbud finder that shows the last known position in the companion app and alerts you if you leave them behind, plus a Bluetooth remote camera shutter you trigger by tapping the earbud or case.
Buy it if you travel, work across languages, take a lot of calls in noisy places, or just enjoy a gadget that does more than play music. Skip it if you want the simplest possible earbud — the screen, the app and the translation modes are the whole point, and if you won't use them, you're paying attention to features that don't earn their place in your day. For plain, uninterrupted call center use with no language element, the extra layer of software is more novelty than necessity.
iKmai Earbuds take the opposite approach: fewer features, sharper focus. The core of the product is the noise cancellation — 6 MEMS microphones working in a hybrid ANC setup, reducing noise by up to 40dB. That's a specific, measurable claim about how much it quietens the room, and it's paired with noise and echo cancellation algorithms aimed squarely at voice pickup.
The audio side uses a 13mm dynamic driver with a customised diaphragm, so it shares the same driver size as the Generic AI pair but pairs it with voice-tuned processing. Bluetooth 6.0 is the newer standard here, and battery is quoted at 6 hours per single charge plus an additional 22 hours from the case, for 28 hours total. There's a gaming mode with 60ms low latency, which matters if you watch video or play games and hate lip-sync drift. The finish is a coated metallic grey and black that's designed to resist scratches, and the box includes three sizes of silicone eartips plus a USB charging cable. A 1-year manufacturer warranty is listed.
Buy it if clear calls and effective noise blocking are your priorities, especially in a busy room or an open office. The combination of six mics, echo cancellation and 40dB hybrid ANC is exactly the profile of earbuds built for talking, not just listening. Skip it if you want translation, a smart case, a finder function or a camera remote — none of that exists here, and no amount of ANC will substitute for it.
• Best for translation and travel → Generic AI. 164 languages, two-way interpretation, subtitles on the case, permanently free.

• Best for total battery life → Generic AI. Up to 40 hours with the case against 28 hours on the iKmai.
• Best for the newest Bluetooth → iKmai Earbuds. Bluetooth 6.0 versus 5.4.
• Best for low-latency video and gaming → iKmai Earbuds. A stated 60ms gaming mode; Generic AI doesn't list a latency figure.
• Best for rugged everyday use → Generic AI. IPX7 waterproof and sweatproof, which the iKmai data sheet doesn't claim.
• Best for extra smart features → Generic AI. Earbud finder, app-based last-known location, and a Bluetooth camera shutter.
• Best for simplicity → iKmai Earbuds. Three eartip sizes, one cable, one job.
My Verdict
If I had to pick one, I'd buy the iKmai Earbuds — but only because of what I'd actually use daily. In my opinion, hybrid ANC rated up to 40dB, six microphones and voice-tuned processing is the more honest answer for noise cancelling true wireless earbuds for call center work, and Bluetooth 6.0 with a 60ms gaming mode covers the rest of the day. The Generic AI set is the more interesting product and the obvious choice if translation is on your list, but for straight call and audio duty I'd rather have the focused tool. If you want the smart case and 164 languages, go Generic AI without hesitation. Either way, check the current price on Amazon before you commit, since that's the one number that decides most of these calls.
what is hybrid anc earbuds
Hybrid ANC means the earbuds use microphones on both the outside and the inside of the ear to feed the noise-cancelling system. Outside mics catch ambient sound before it reaches you; inside mics catch what's left. Both products here use hybrid noise cancellation — the iKmai specifies 6 MEMS microphones and up to 40dB of reduction.
what are hybrid anc earbuds
They're in-ear headphones that combine feedforward and feedback microphones for active noise cancellation, rather than relying on one type alone. That usually means better performance across a wider range of noise, from engine rumble to office chatter. Both the Generic AI and the iKmai Earbuds fall into this category.
what is anc earbuds
ANC stands for Active Noise Cancellation: the earbuds generate sound to cancel out incoming noise, instead of just sealing your ear with foam or silicone. It's most effective on steady low-frequency noise like engines and air conditioning. The iKmai quotes a specific figure of up to 40dB; the Generic AI describes hybrid ANC without a number.
what are anc earbuds good for
They're good for flights, commuting, open offices and anywhere you need to hear a caller clearly over background noise. For call center use, the combination of ANC and echo cancellation matters more than raw audio quality, which is why the iKmai's six-microphone setup and voice pickup focus stand out. The Generic AI adds translation on top, which is a different kind of value entirely.
