The process is very simple.

You click on Generate a HALD button to generate a PNG HALD.

You open this PNG into your favorite photo editing application and apply a color correction on the PNG HALD.

Then you save it as PNG without compression (or in JPG 100% quality).

Finally, you click Convert to CUBE and select the modified PNG you just saved.

The algorithm will interpret the differences that there are between each pixel of the original HALD and the HALD modified by you.

A 3D LUT as .CUBE format will be generated (25x25x25 or 64x64x64, choose in Preferences).

I'm looking for the best way to export LUTs from davinci resolve. I know the process of doing it. But I'm curious when I right click and select generate 3D LUT (CUBE). It that compiling all of my Nodes including exposure and white balance - and generating the LUT? Or is it just taking the colors and exporting that data?

If you use Davinci Resolve to select the Blackagic Gen 5 Film to Extended Video LUT in a node on a clip, then right click the clip in timeline on the color tab and click Generate LUT > 65 Point Cube, then it creates a LUT that seems to be exactly the same as the one provided in Resolve 17, except this generated lut cube file DOES load into Lumetri Color. [Sorry, Adobe doesn't allow attachments, but it was easy to do with Resolve!]

Click on Download HALD button al select the size of the LUT to generate a PNG HALD, normally with a HALD 25 SIZE is enough. SIZE 144 is for Extreme Exceptions

Note:You can only have one or two parameters selected at a time. If you click on a third parameter, the last parameter you clicked on will deselect itself. If you deselect both of the parameters or switch effects, the Variations window will disappear because the variations are no longer being generated.
