Upon completion of the Eduwhere hazmat general awareness course, you will receive a certificate, score sheet, and wallet card. Please note, however, that per 49 CFR 172.704(d) of the Hazardous Materials Regulations, your certification will not be complete until you take additional worksite-specific training as required by your employer. Your employer should keep detailed records of your training activities to issue formal certification.

Hazardous waste management is highly complex, involving many categories of materials and procedures. General awareness hazmat training is valuable because it introduces the student to the full scope of materials and paints an accurate picture of the level of care that management and regulation of such materials requires.

While this training provides an essential foundation for all employees involved in hazmat transportation, it does not provide comprehensive instruction on individual substances or procedures. This course provides a critical component of hazmat information, but a complete hazmat education will require the individual to take additional coursework.

DOT's training requirements for shipping hazardous materials is located in 49 CFR Part 172 Subpart H. In addition to initial training [49 CFR 172.704(c)(1)], DOT requires "recurrent training" every 3 three years.

"A hazmat employee shall receive the training required by this subpart at least once every three years." [49 CFR 172.704(c)(2)]
