SCBP 2021 begins on Monday, June 14th
Welcome to official home for the GCB Summer CompBio Preview at Penn. This site documents the philosophy and mission of the Summer CompBio Preview, as well as the developments and updates for the summer program. It its curated and monitored by graduate students in the GCB Graduate Group and administrators of the program can be reached at compbio.upenn@gmail.com.
ABOUT THE PROGRAM
The Penn Summer CompBio Preview is a funded graduate student-run initiative to expose promising undergraduate students curious about graduate study in computational biology to the amazing science at the intersection of biology, mathematics, and computer science.
Selected participants will receive a $1000 award to support their time training virtually with us.
The 8-week intensive program (from June 14th to August 9th) will host a virtual cohort of 10-20 undergraduates who will be matched with current Ph.D. students in the Genomics and Computational Biology (GCB) Program at the University of Pennsylvania. Activities will include mentored research through a small bioinformatics project, attendance at lab meetings, cohort networking, interactive workshops, and meeting GCB faculty. Students will also be invited to synchronous and asynchronous seminars/lectures in biology, computer science, and statistics -- similar to the curriculum of GCB students, providing a useful survey of what getting a Ph.D. in computational biology is like.
This curriculum is designed for beginners in computational biology and those looking to explore a new field. Therefore, we especially encourage applicants without previous research experience to apply.
This is a brand-new program that we are excited to open to the community to uplift the next generation of computational biologists. Click here to learn more about GCB.
SCBP is sponsored by the Institute for Biomedical Informatics and the Biomedical Graduate Studies Program at the University of Pennsylvania.
