iBranch is an internal enterprise platform that helps bank branches manage collections and settlements in one place. Before iBranch, branch staff had to process payments and reconciliations across different systems, a process that was slow, fragmented, and prone to errors.
As the UX Designer, my goal was to redesign the platform into a single, easy-to-use admin portal that simplified complex financial workflows. The new design will focus on clarity and efficiency, allowing users to track collections, manage transfers, and monitor settlements seamlessly.
Role: UI/UX Designer
Tools: Figma, FigJam
Industry: Financial Services
The original iBranch interface was cluttered and confusing, with all modules grouped together and no clear structure. This made it difficult for administrators to navigate and complete routine tasks efficiently. The outdated design also lacked scalability. The challenge was to redesign iBranch into a more intuitive, organised, and scalable admin platform.
To uncover the root problems with the existing iBranch platform, I began by meeting with administrators and key stakeholders to understand how they used the system and where they encountered difficulties.
The conversations revealed that users were often overwhelmed by the platform’s complexity. There was no clear structure or hierarchy, making navigation confusing and repetitive tasks inefficient.
They also expressed frustration with inconsistent feedback, such as missing notifications or unclear error messages, which made them feel uncertain about the accuracy of their operations.
To validate these findings, I conducted a heuristic evaluation of the existing interface, focusing on usability, visibility, and consistency. The evaluation confirmed the issues we identified in our discussions: the interface lacked organisation, scalability, and effective communication.
After synthesising the insights, I shared a FigJam board with my team lead summarising key usability issues and recommendations. We identified three major opportunities:
Reorganise the information architecture to establish a clear hierarchy and logical grouping of modules.
Simplify navigation to help users complete core tasks faster and with confidence.
Improve feedback and communication through clearer notifications, confirmations, and error states.
With key insights from research, I focused on making iBranch more intuitive, structured, and scalable. The goal was to simplify complex workflows while maintaining the platform’s enterprise functionality.
I started by reworking the information architecture, grouping modules into logical categories that mirrored real user tasks. This created a clear hierarchy, reduced cognitive load, and made navigation more predictable. Collaborating with stakeholders ensured the new structure aligned with both user needs and business goals.
Next, I mapped user flows and wireframes in Figma to visualise key actions, such as tracking collections and confirming settlements. I emphasised clarity and feedback, adding consistent notifications, confirmation messages, and error states to build user trust.
Ultimately, I refined the visual design into a clean, modern interface with scalable layouts and a simple, professional aesthetic.
Accessibility was a key part of the iBranch redesign to ensure all users could confidently manage financial operations without friction. I prioritised visual clarity through high colour contrast, readable typography, and clear text hierarchy to support data-heavy tasks.
Colour was never used alone to convey meaning; each status or alert was paired with icons and descriptive text. The interface was also designed with consistent layouts, and logical grouping to create a predictable and accessible experience.
Beyond visuals, I focused on interaction accessibility by defining visible focus states for keyboard navigation and using clear, descriptive labels for inputs and buttons. Error and confirmation messages were rewritten to be specific and actionable to help users recover from mistakes easily.
After implementing the redesign, I conducted usability testing sessions with a few administrators to evaluate navigation, task completion, and overall usability. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive users found the new interface cleaner, easier to navigate, and more consistent.
Task completion time improved by 40%, and error rates during reconciliation dropped significantly. Users also reported greater confidence in performing daily operations thanks to clearer notifications and confirmations.
From a business perspective, the new structure made it easier to onboard new users and scale the platform as more modules were introduced.
Working on iBranch taught me the importance of designing for clarity in complex systems. I learned that even small usability issues like unclear hierarchy or inconsistent feedback can significantly impact user trust, especially in fintech platforms where accuracy and confidence are critical.
If given more time, I would conduct deeper usability testing across a wider range of users to uncover more edge cases and refine the design for scalability. I’d also explore adding analytics to track how administrators interact with key features over time.
This project reinforced my belief that great design isn’t just about visuals, it’s about understanding real user pain points, aligning with business goals, and creating solutions that make everyday work simpler and more human.
