My name is Gavin Cooper, and I looking forward to my 7th year here at The Clyde A. Erwin Middle School. I will be teaching social studies for the WCU Catamount team, and I am excited for the opportunity to get to know and work with all of our students this year.

I am originally from Chattanooga, TN, and I have also lived in Charleston, SC and Atlanta. I have called the Asheville area home for about 13 years, and I absolutely love it here. I enjoy hiking and exploring the region with my wife, Aubrey, and two children, Annabelle (8) and Harrison (5). I am a big fan of baseball and football--I love the Chicago Cubs and Tennessee Volunteers. My other interests include reading, writing lyrical poetry and playing guitar. The latter of which is a skill I enjoy sharing as the host of Erwin's Guitar Club and as a long-time member of Erwin's very own faculty/student band, The Leicester Steamroller (coming soon to a talent show near you).

While this year is off to a crazy start, I am very dedicated to my students, and I will do everything I can to make sure we have a fantastic year together. Parents, if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me via email or phone, which can be found under the WCU Contacts page of this site.

Fun fact: The handsome gentleman holding the fiddle in the middle row in the picture above is my great grandfather, B. K. "Bertie" Jenkins, who was a well-respected regional musician in the mountains of Eastern Tennessee and Western North Carolina.
