Hi, I've got a secondhand Probook 4540s from a shop near me which sells used laptops. At the time i got it it came with Windows 7 Professional 64bit. Everything was working smoothly, then I started updating the graphics card drivers and other drivers in it (in hopes of improving perfomance) and it was around that time that windows started complaining that this version of windows is not genuine. (I think it was after i updated bios or something. or I used a non microsoft software to download microsoft updates because my microsoft update manager was not working)

So to the problem at hand now. I want to format my pc and for that I need windows product key right? I cant find it! It is not in the back of my laptop, not under the battery (The battery is seemed to be replaced) and I did not get any installation media along with the laptop.

I am not using grub and don't have two efi system partitions, so I can only imagine, that this configuration needs some additional configuration steps (boot files for windows are on second system EFI partition, which is not mounted?).

Since I had to reinstall Windows last month I came across this topic again. After putting in another ~1h of investigation I still could not find out why GRUB is unable to boot/load/chainload/whatever the windows system. I got the same setup (all GPT partition setup, 2 separate drives etc) on my desktop machine and there it works as expected. So I am guessing my HP laptop/bios is the problem.

Therefore I am still using my workaround which is to create a custom GRUB menu entry and just skipping the first boot entry (which is GRUB) by executing "exit" in GRUB. The HP bios then loads the next boot entry which is Windows. This works for me.

During installation of ubuntu two option come to us: One of them "Install alongside windows" another procedure is customizing hard drive partition and installing which is mentioned as "something else" during installation. The process you are going on is not right.Whatever you do you have to install grub boot loader on same drive so that u can boot windows and ubuntu. In bios option you must select ubuntu system boot loader as a first priority.

i left the computer with a kid playing games.....when the water spilled, the computer turned off and he did not know what to do so the battery stayed about 2 hours in the computer until i came back and removed it...dried the computer.....opened it and cleaned the motherboard using isopropyl alcohol.....then comes the problem.....it could not boot to windows so i did a fresh installation of windows 11.It works well without windows update ....when you do windows update, certain drivers install well but when it comes to installing the display driver the computer freezes and displays a blank screen....it freezes until yu force shutdown.i did fresh installations severals times the issue still remains....out of options now please help

We have identified this issue where some Windows clients with TPM 2.0 cannot handle some algorithms properly during client TLS when communicating with enterpriseregistration.windows.net.
