What is Best Game Qualifying Format?
Short explanation
Play your entries any time during qualifying hours (5 PM to midnight on Friday and noon to 4 PM on Saturday) Each qualifying entry will consist of 6 plays. Only a player's top score on a given machine will count toward their ranking, and scores can be replaced across unlimited entries. On Friday, games must be completed by midnight. We highly recommend not starting a game that can't be completed, as it will be a hard cutoff!
Detailed explanation
Best Game qualifying is all about putting up the best scores you can across six different machines. For each qualifying entry you purchase, you'll get 6 attempts (single-player games). The tournament bank will consist of eight machines, and you can use your attempts on whatever machines you choose from the tournament bank, but you'll want to play at least 6 unique machines. You can purchase as many entries as you like, so there is no limit on how many qualifying games you can play.
For each machine, your top score will be ranked among other players also attempting to qualify on that machine. Based on how your score ranks among others, you will be given some number of points. For instance, whoever gets the best score on a given machine could earn 100 points. Second place could get 90, third 85, fourth 84, and each position after that gets one point less than the last (the scoring scheme may vary). Combined points from your top six qualifying attempts across unique games will determine your tournament rank. Only your top score on a given machine will count, so you won't be able to get points for two attempts on the same machine.
Playoffs will begin Saturday, ~5pm. Cutoff will be determined based on participant count. Subject to attendance, expect the top 16 players to advance to A-Division finals, and the next top 8 eligible players to advance to B-Division finals. Finals for both divisions will be group matchplay format (3 machines / round). The top seed in each group will have choice of bank. Banks will be announced at the start of playoffs. Banks are not restricted to machines used in qualifying and could include any machines from the Wedgehead freeplay area. Players may not select the same bank more than once.
B-Division Eligibility Requirements:
Eligibility to compete in B-Division finals will be limited to players outside the IFPA global top 2,000 ranking and players with a ranking of 4 or lower in PinballPDX/MNP.
Qualifying bank will be announced prior to the start of the event. No practicing will be allowed once qualifying hours begin. TDs will have discretion on any required rulings, in guidance from PAPA/IFPA rules.
Scorekeeper hour: there will be an hour on Saturday between 4-5pm giving time for our volunteer scorekeepers to complete their entries. Keep in mind that no other players will have access to qualifying games at this time. In other words, get your big games in by 4pm and secure your spot in the finals!
