Renting a Garmin inReach Messenger in Singapore makes sense if you use it only occasionally, as it requires a monthly subscription like a phone.

Plans: Cost and Pickup

Rent the device for 5 days from as low as $100. Subscription is included and you only pay more for extra messages or special weather requests as shown below.

Choose a Plan: People typically choose the Safety Plan which gives you SOS, 3 editable pre-set messages with unlimited messages sends. My plans are unique as most plans from only include non-editable pre-set messages. The Tracking Plan gives you everything on the Safety Plan, some free messages, and your location every 10 minutes updated on a website map for friends and family to follow you.

Pickup/Return: Collect the device from me (Tanjong Pagar, Singapore) 1 day before your trip so you can familiarise yourself with it. Return the device to me in Tanjong Pagar. For example pickup on Thursday and return on Monday for 5 day rental.

Deposit and Return: S$500 deposit, fully refunded on return of device in good condition. Any additional costs for weather and SMS messages is deducted from your deposit. I have never needed to deduct any deposit from anyone yet.
