Big Sit!

Garfield Park Cedar Waxwings

October 10, 2021

Our team, the Garfield Park Cedar Waxwings, will gather at the Big Sit Circle marked on the map. It's a 17 foot diameter circle. People can enter and exit as they wish. Our goal is to identify as many types of birds as possible observed from the circle.

This event is for the BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) community whether you love birds, enjoy nature, or just want to try something new.

Bring family, friends, and binoculars. If you don't have binoculars, we'll have some to lend out. We'll provide a few snacks and drinks to share, but you are welcome to bring your own. You can walk around in the circle or bring a chair to sit in.

What's a Big Sit?

The Big Sit is an international event where teams of birdwatchers pick a spot and count as many birds species as possible from that location on that day. Some teams can get really competitive, but we're just out to observe and appreciate all of the amazing birds that allow us to see them.
