Just so we get on the same page, when I say "make a beat". I'm referring to programming a drum beat that you might use in a song or production. If you're more curious about how to make "type beats" which might include more instrumentation, you might be interested in my how to make a song series.

This is the fun part. In the editor, (shortcut: "E"), you can now edit the drum presets by dragging the yellow dots in the "square". You can also adjust the swing and percussion sounds on the right side. You have a huge variety of patterns to choose from so spend some time dialling in on a sound you would like. I personally like starting out with simple and soft beats if I'm working on a verse section to a song. For my chorus', I would make the beat a bit louder and more complex and I might add a different hi-hat pattern too. Here's an example of a beat I made in GarageBand

I love making beats in GarageBand and as I said it's one of my favourite parts in the music production process. It's also one of the most important parts since the beat is the backbone of your song and it's important you have a solid groove so your song stands up straight!

Hi there,

I've been dabbling with Garagebend recently and quite disappointed to see the lack of beats suitable for surf music.

What i'd really like is a double snare beat but can't seem to modify the programmed beats to suit. Has anyone got beats they are willing to share?

I also just made my own out of existing beats. I found it to be REALLY easy, just some copy/paste magic and you'll have it in no time. Do yourself a favor and save the file just as that beat, so you can open it and "save as" for all new files.

Please help!!! Having the same issue!!! You are the first person i have come across this issue. Did you resolve it? My iPad 2 does not have this issue. I got an i pad air and had this issue. I went back and forth with apple, returned the device when they said they couldn't find anything wrong with it. I bought another one and had the same issue happen!!! Is it possible my garageband is infecting the devices? I am at a total loss. Help!!!

Hi Paul, I have been playing with garageband and all your tutorials.

Now I just have one question, I already have a project but at the end of it I would like to have just the sound of a cork pop, but I want to end all my other tracks before this pop in order to have just it at the end of the song.

I can't get how to manage to end all my other 3 tracks for example, at compas 32-4-4 so that the cork pop sounds isolated at compas 33-1

Thanks n advance and I 'm looking forward to chapter 4 of these series.

Kind regards from Mexico
