Gang Zhang

Visiting Assistant Professor

International School of Finance, Fudan University

I am a macroeconomist with interests in macro-finance, international economics, and China studies. My research centers on two main areas. First, I examine how financial frictions originating from financial intermediaries affect firm dynamics, innovation,  economic structures, and productivity growth. Second, I investigate how micro-level shocks within firms or industries spread to the broader economy through networks such as input-output linkages, trade credit relationships, and knowledge diffusion.

I obtained his Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Virginia in 2018. Before joining FISF, I served as an assistant professor at the Cheung  Kong GSB, a summer dissertation intern at the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City, and as a research fellow at the Inter-American Development Bank. He has held visiting researcher positions at the Bank of Finland in 2025 and the Hong Kong Institute for Monetary and Financial Research in 2022.
