To Design and Simulation of STATCOM for a distribution system for reactive power compensation
At the end of this experiment students are able to
LO1: Describe how a Static Synchronous Compensator (STATCOM) operates and its role in reactive power compensation in power systems.
LO2: Identify the impact of reactive power on voltage regulation and power factor in distribution systems.
LO3: Develop a simulation model of a STATCOM using MATLAB/Simulink.
LO4: Analyze the performance difference of the distribution system in both scenarios to evaluate the effectiveness of STATCOM.
MATLAB Software: Simscape (power system toolbox)
Theory should include following point
a) Circuit Description of STATCOM
b) Mathematical model of STATCOM
For details see video given below
Design and Simulate Static Synchronous Compensation (STATCOM) for following conditions:
Supply voltage=400V, 50Hz, Three Phase AC supply
Load=10kW and power factor varies from unity to 0.6 lagging
Watch the following video to design simulation circuit
PART 01
PART 02
From simulation attach the waveforms for any ONE readings from the following table.
The waveform should consists
(1) Source side voltage, current, reactive power
(2) Load side voltage, current, reactive power
(3) Compensator side voltage, current, reactive power
From simulation note down record the values in following table
Quiz on this experiment will be conducted in LMS
