Membership in a clan is usually determined by blood relations and genetics, which is vital in the usage of kekkei genkai and secret techniques. These attributes and abilities made many clans feared and renowned throughout many villages. While clans may be composed of many individuals and extended families, many clans mentioned and seen in the series were somewhat limited to a nuclear family.

"Clans" ( Kuran) are the factions of Cardfight!! Vanguard. Within the card game, they are the primary determinants of the structure of a deck. Clans are defined by their different themes and focuses; for example, Royal Paladin is a clan composed of holy knights focused on calling allies, while Kagero is a clan composed of fiery dragons and dragon knights focused on retiring the opponent's rear-guards. In the main mode of Vanguard play for the Premium and Premium formats, Clan Fight, decks can only be composed of cards from one clan, with some exceptions. Originally, cards were allowed to be used in decks regardless of clans, although many cards had restrictions that heavily discouraged using them with cards from different clans (such as Lord), and mixing clans was infrequent and largely discouraged. For various reasons, the Clan Fight regulation was eventually implemented in March 2014, rendering restrictions like Lord unnecessary, and while the Extreme Fight regulation was implemented to allow multi-clan decks, it is rarely played in practice.

Their team had spent months on a fantasy themed Facebook game when Supercell changed strategies. Leppinen and Louhento wanted to make a strategy game that would use a touch screen so playing would be as simple and pleasant as possible. Pei Tian Yao pleads Luo Zheng to stop her before she can do so, which he does. Having backed Mo Yu Xin into a corner and holding her at sword point, Luo Zheng threatens to kill her if she attempts to ignite her Essence, feigning pure self-interest in doing so. He cannot fool Pei Tian Yao, however, who sees through Luo Zheng's pretense and is deeply grateful to him.

After waking up, Luo Zheng waits for Hua Tian Ming, who is still meditating. Shortly thereafter, Hua Tian Ming also wakes up and admits defeat during their earlier clash. Nevertheless, he requests one more round against Luo Zheng to determine the true winner of the match, which the latter immediately accepts. Hua Tian Ming then reveals to have gained access to Lightning Intent during his Enlightenment, whereas Luo Zheng manifests his newly acquired Sword Spirit, shocking the audience. Even though he does not believe he can win, Hua Tian Ming tries his best regardless and the two trade blows one last time, after which he admits defeat, making Luo Zheng the winner.

Many skirmishes happened between the Spider and several other clans, but the Spider soundly defeated their attackers due to being far more acclimated to the environment. However, the Lion forces seemed doggedly determined to corner the Spider into a larger fight. The Lion pressed the Unicorn to grant them leave to patrol the route to the Colonies, but the recent Blood Feud between the Khan Shinjo Min-Hee and the late Lion Clan Champion Akodo Shinjiro blocked any attempt at cooperation. The Lion was the first Great Clan to which the Yodotai offered a vassalization alliance, to be elevated over the other clans overseeing Rokugan after it would be conquered. [20]

He has a remarkable intuition to see the good in others in spite of their actions, though his compassion and willingness to forgive can have often been criticized as excessive even to a fault and has led to harm and death to those he cares about in extreme occasions.
