A "Caribbean Carnival", precursor of the Notting Hill Carnival, was held on 30 January 1959 in St Pancras Town Hall. Activist Claudia Jones organized this carnival in response to the riots and to the state of race relations in Britain at the time.

At the moment, my training splits are: Tuesday - speed work of some sort (usually short intervals, e.g 10 x 1km, on road or track) Wednesday - easy recovery ~ 60 min Thursday - tempo or progression run ~ 5 miles Saturday - hill reps (10 x 60s on a 10-15% or 40s on a 15-20%) Sunday - long run (7.5 miles building to 10) on trails so I get a lot of rolling hill exposure

When that was just detailed in the event description, lots of people raced the whole distance of the event, so I added the Robo Pacers as well as a voice recording which is played in the pen. Now almost everyone follows the idea of the race.

The Broadmoor Pikes Peak International Hill Climb encompasses a 12.42-mile trek up Pikes Peak Highway with 156 turns that begins at 9,390 feet and finishes at the 14,115-foot summit. It is truly like no other race. What takes an average person around 1-3 hours to drive, takes these professional daredevils around ten minutes. The current record is an astonishing 07:57.148 and was set by Romain Dumas in the all-electric Volkswagen I.D. R Pikes Peak in 2018.

For the virtual options, you can choose where you would like to run. The Bonanza 5k and 10k courses will be open, marked, and available for virtual participants. If you decide to run the Bonanza course, it will not be closed to traffic. Please do not run your virtual race on our course during race hours. The virtual race will open two weeks before the race and conclude April 22nd.

By registering for this event you are acknowledging that the date, time, location, and distance of the race may be changed, switched to virtual, or canceled at any time as deemed necessary by the Race Directors due to circumstances beyond their control. In the event that any of these scenarios happens or any other, there will be no refunds, transfers, or deferrals allowed unless otherwise stated.

Yes, two inches of freshly fallen snow greeted Kari and me as we went out to the truck for the trip to the starting line in Vienna. This will be interesting, I thought. We arrived, parked, and found our way to the start area to look for some familiar faces. My son Ben and become friends with a guy named Sean, and they had done a lot of running together. Sean was there to run the 50-mile race and I was glad to see him. We greeted each other at the pre-race dinner the night before and again just before starting our journeys, wished each other luck, and he took his rightful place in the front of the starting group and I made my way to the back. I found my local friends, Jim and Calvin, both doing the 50-miler, and we took some selfies. Jodi, Jennifer, and Lara must have been avoiding us, but I would see two of the three later in the race.

Since 1998 our 1/2 Marathon trophies have been dedicated to Ernie Klann. Ernie started the first Hernia Hill 1/2 Marathon in 1988. We are proud to have been associated to continue "his" race.

On day of the event, we will adhere to current CDC guidelines in place at that time.

Course~

All distances are beautifully scenic with hills and finish with a "dash" through the 'Wine Cave'.

5K - has one fun hill prior to the finish line

10K - Includes a dash up the finishing hill twice, so you get the punishment twice.

Half Marathon - utilizes Red Hill Road with a long and very pretty run through the California Hills...beautiful and golden at this time of year.

The race has a three-day format, with practice runs on half of the mountain on Friday and Saturday morning. The practice location on either the lower half or the upper half of the mountain depends on the weather.

The current record for the race was set at the last Climb to the Clouds event in July 2017 by Travis Pastrana at a blistering 5 minutes and 44 seconds. For anyone who has driven the road this is an almost unfathomable feat!

This is a very challenging course with many rolling to STEEP HILLS and a few stairs too!! Elevation is approximately 1000 feet of total climb. This is not a race to get your PR in, but a great course to BRAG about!!!! Runners and Walkers are welcome  ? Course is not certified, distance and elevation was measured by Race Director GPS watch.

The Escape From Prison Hill Half Marathon is the second of 3 in a half marathon trail series. The other runs in the series include Carson Canyons Half Marathon in Carson City and the Silver State Half Marathon in Reno. Runners who complete all 3 races will receive a special finishers award.

I consider myself to be a hardcore racing fan. I've attended lots of races in my life and witnessed my fair share of nail-biting moments, inch-perfect passes, and tear-jerking victories. I've also witnessed more crashes than I've wanted to, including some that claimed driver and spectator lives. However, until last week, there was one race that I hadn't checked off my motor racing bucket list: the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. And now, after witnessing its savagery from up close, I can confidently say that the race to the 14,115-foot summit is the wildest and most dangerous in America. 2351a5e196
