The first billion years of the Universe is the new frontier in our investigation of structure formation, thanks to a vast array of instruments that are starting unveiling this period of time. Within a decade, they will provide the first comprehensive picture of this era. This will unlock the possibility to study the interplay between the first stars and galaxies and the diffuse inter-galactic medium between them. This workshop brings together a small group of experts to (i) identify key issues and opportunities in the study of the galaxy-IGM connection, (ii) design strategies and make practical progress in solving them.Â
