The ESS Research Gala is an annual, student-organized research symposium. The Gala is a showcase of ESS research where students present conference-style talks and posters to the department and wider UW community. This event is both a celebration of department research, and an opportunity for students to receive constructive feedback on their work.

Keynote Speaker
Isaac Larsen received his bachelor's degree in Geology from Carleton College. He attended Utah State University for a master's degree and then worked for three years as a researcher in the Watershed Science program at Colorado State University. He received a Ph.D. from the University of Washington in 2013 and was a Texaco Prize Postdoctoral Fellow at Caltech. He began a tenure-track position in the Department of Geosciences at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst in fall of 2015.
