Development of a personalized tissue/organ regeneration technology


○ Research goal

- Our lab aims to create a new healthcare industry by developing patient-customized tissue/organ reconstruction technology through a realization of optimized micro-environments by the fusion of stem cell-based technology and 3D printing platform.

○ Next generation growth engine: Tissue Engineering

- Tissue engineering is the study to restore damaged or lost tissues and organs using biology and bioengineering technologies.

- Tissue engineering is one of the core technologies of the 4th industrial revolution. A damaged living tissue is reconstructed through the following process: Cells are seeded on artificial scaffolds made of biomaterials, growth factors are administered, appropriate 3D growth conditions are maintained, and finally reconstructed by implantation in vivo.

○ 3D bio-printing as a blueprint of the future medicine

- 3D bio-printing technology is a technology that can produce tissues for regeneration of human tissues and organs using 3D printing technology based on computer-aided design / computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) technology.

- 3D bio-printing technology based on high reproducibility enables personalized medical products to be put into practical use, thereby it reduces costs of the health care field, strengthens market diversity, and creates various added values.
