Master the Chrome Tabs: Pin, Reopen, & Mute

When using Google Chrome, it can be very easy to end up with 347 tabs open at once! Luckily, Chrome has a few really cool features that can help you manage those tabs with ease!

1. Pinning

  • Pin the tabs that you need open all day! Attendance, email, curriculum...whatever you need open all day, pin them! Pinning will make the tab stick to the far left, reduce the size of the tab (more space for more tabs), and remove the X. You must unpin a tab to close it. No more accidental closures!

2. Reopening

  • Fortunately, if you do accidentally close a tab that isn’t pinned, HAVE NO FEAR. CTRL + SHIFT +T will open recently closed tabs!

3. Muting

  • Often times, one of the websites you have open will autoplay a video or advertisement with sound. With a ton of tabs open, finding the one where the sound is coming from can be frustrating. Look along your tabs for the volume icon. Need to turn off the sound quickly? Just mute the tab! Right Click → Mute!

Customizing Chrome Bookmarks Bar: How to get the most out of the Chrome Bookmarks Bar

Bookmarks in your Chrome browser are more than just a place to store pages to read later. By simplifying and organizing Chrome bookmarks, you are one click away from the tools and resources you use every day. However, too many bookmarks can quickly clutter your toolbar. To maximize the space on your bookmark bar, remove a bookmark’s name, and it will appear as an icon instead. Another option is to create folders for similar tools and resources. Although it may be tempting to save everything of interest, you should reserve bookmarks for useful tools, webpages, and resources you access regularly. Be honest with yourself, and as Marie Kondo would say, ask yourself, “Do those bookmarks bring you joy?”

To customize your bookmarks in your Chrome browser, follow the steps in the GIF.

Overshare!

When you share weblinks, do you tend to share very long links? Do you “overshare”? Check out today’s Tech Tip in a GIF-fy to learn about a tool that will take your “overshare” and turn it into a shortened link to help you share and communicate more effectively. Shortened links will make sure WHAT you share gets more attention than HOW you share.
