While Artificial Intelligence is amazing, is does make the future of work a scary prospect for a lot of employees. Many employers are looking at Artificial Intelligence, of course, as it can cut down their costs and make them very attractive for customers - we all want the people we work with to be digitally aware and on top of new technologies - but most employers are always going to want to have employee too.
As an employer, you do have to look after your employees. If you are thinking of doing more things digitally, talk to your employees about this. Tell them what you are thinking and rather than excluding them, let them be part of the process. It is always beneficial to include employees in your business strategies. It makes your employees want to do more, and while AI and the future of work may seem a bit frightening to an employee, they may well bring something positive to the process.
AI is being used all the time
Artificial intelligence is being used all the time, and you may be using it without even knowing. When you engage online, perhaps on a company chat line, it is often AI who is talking to you. At this point, AI is never going to replace real employees. It can certainly give information to the person on the other end of the line, or on the other end of a computer, but there is always a need for real interaction. We believe that if you communicate with and look after your employees, they will do the same for you and you will get more out of them than any computer or AI can give you.
Employees who fear AI because of the future of work do have genuine concerns. As a boss, you should address them.
