Future of Agriculture in US

The Future of US Farming

Many trends around the globe are affecting food security, food sustainability and overall agricultural systems. With the rapid population growth, the demand for food is also increasing. The current food system in place is not built to last. Hence a sustainable agriculture system is urgently needed work currently in the United States to meet current and future demands of food in the country.

Present Scenario of US Agriculture Sector

The agriculture sector in the US produces around $300 billion per year in commodities including crops and livestock products. Since the demand for food is growing continuously with the increasing number of population, by 2050 we will need to produce around 70-80% more food to meet this rising demand. And to meet to increasing demand for food, our food growers will need to reach a remarkable level of food production to help feed the growing population of the country. Very little innovation has taken place in the field of agriculture as compared to the other sectors which make it the least digitized sector globally.

How Technology Will Dominate the Agriculture Sector in the Future:

Now, the agriculture field is attracting the attention of the government and many other people and they all are working to bring revolutionary changes in this field with the help of innovation and technology. It is indicated that with digitalization in farming, hunger, and food scarcity will not be an issue in the future. Advancements in technology in the agriculture sector will allow farmers to be more profitable, eco-friendly, and efficient. It is believed that future agriculture will not be dependent anymore on just water supply, fertilizers, pesticides, etc. Instead, they will use these resources minimally to the required and targeted areas. It is further believed that agricultural fields and farms will run on entirely different operations as compared to the present scenarios and will utilize more sophisticated technology such as robots, GPS technology, aerial images, sensors related to moisture and temperature, etc.

Innovation in Combine Harvesters for Sustainable Farming

In the past days, farming was a difficult occupation that was also physically demanded. All the operations were used to be done manually until combine harvesters were not introduced. The innovation of combine harvesters was revolutionary changes in the farming industry as this machinery saved not only time but also helped in doubling the agriculture output and farmers’ income. This single performs a variety of tasks such as threshing, reaping, and winnowing, etc which saves time and effort.

Even the companies which are manufacturing farm equipment and machinery are more focused on adopting the latest technology to manufacture high-tech equipment. John Deere’s 9800 combine series, e.g., is an upgraded version that is more efficient and reliable. The combine concave settings of this brand are easier than other combines.

Additionally, the latest innovations like rice planters, AI enabled harvesters are also introduced in recent years to help lower the cost of production by reaching greater efficiencies.

Final Thoughts

The digital revolution is currently sweeping through agriculture. Technology can help in increasing efficiency and cost of production and will be quite effective on the path of sustainable agriculture.
