Futura remains an important typeface family and is used on a daily basis for print and digital purposes as both a headline and body font. The font is also used extensively in advertisements and logos, notably by IKEA (until 2010), Supreme, Party City, Volkswagen (until 2015), Royal Dutch Shell, Crayola, Swissair, FremantleMedia (until 2018), Absolut and HP in their print ads.[citation needed] Particularly until the 1950s it was used extensively by the publishing industry as a general-purpose font.

Futura has been used extensively in film and video. It is used for the title logo of the 1999 film American Beauty. It was also used in various TV shows including Doug, Lost and Warehouse 13. The most notable show to utilize Futura was Sesame Street, as the font was used whenever letters, numbers, or words were displayed. To make the font more distinguishable to children, some of the characters were altered, such as the addition of serifs on the capital "I", a tail on the lowercase "j", and an open variant of the number "4". Futura is featured ubiquitously throughout the film adaptation of V for Vendetta, for everything from the title logo and ending credits, to signs, newspapers, computer screens and other props. Some filmmakers used Futura in almost all of their films like Gaspar Noe.[22] Wes Anderson is also fond of the font and used it in some of his films. Futura was also Stanley Kubrick's favorite typeface.[23]

NBC used a modified version of Futura for its original 1986 version of the current logo and its wordmarks.[25]A bold version of the font was used for NBC Sports on-screen graphics from 1989 to 1991, and by CBS Sports from 1992 to 1996.

In 1997, the Pittsburgh Steelers (an American football team) switched to rounded numbers on the jersey to match the number font (Futura Condensed) on their helmets. In 2012 the newly formed Western Sydney Wanderers Football Club used Futura in their logo and for club documentation. The Minnesota Timberwolves adopted Futura during their 2017 rebranding.[26] The National Hockey League's Nashville Predators use Futura Bold Condensed as the font for the names on the back of player jerseys.[27]

Futura Condensed is a condensed version of the original Futura font family. Bold and bold oblique fonts were released in 1930. Medium, medium oblique, extra bold, and extra bold oblique fonts were released in 1936. Light and light oblique fonts were released in 1950.

This is also the font used on the covers of the classic Region 2 Doctor Who DVD covers, and was used on the covers of most Star Trek novels published by Pocket Books during the 1980s. A slimmer variant seems to have been used by the Canadian Tire Corporation in their wordmark and logo. Futura Display is also used in the logo for the manga/anime series My Hero Academia.

First released in 1929, Futura Black is an alternative design that uses stencil letter forms, high contrast and triangular serifs, with similarities to fat face types.[32] Example uses of the font include the public safety departments of the city of Boston, the "R" logo of the National Association of Realtors, title sequences of television programs such as The Love Boat and Prisoner: Cell Block H, and as the wordmark for the National Football League's Minnesota Vikings from 1982 to 2003. The movie logo for the 2021 James Bond film No Time to Die also uses Futura Black.

Steile Futura was Paul Renner's attempt to create a typeface that would be closer to the nineteenth century sans serifs than to the geometric model. During the course of development, Renner developed several intermediate versions. Some of the early design could be found in the experimental font called Renner-Grotesk, which appeared as a trial type casting from the Stempel type foundry in 1936. Renner kursiv, a true italic companion to the regular version, was made after Stempel had been taken over by Bauer in 1938.

The font family has rounder letters than Futura Display. For the first time, italic type features are incorporated in the italic fonts. The fonts incorporate handwriting features, especially in italic version. URW and Berthold have released digitisations, URW's under the name of "Topic", its name in original release in some non-German speaking countries.[34][35] Tasse by Font Bureau is a loose adaptation.[36]

As with all metal type revivals, converting Futura into a digital format poses interpretative challenges. Metal type fonts could be made differently for each text size, so a variety of metal and phototype versions of Futura exist on which a revival could potentially be based. In addition, revivals will need to add characters not present in the original Futura like the Euro sign and Cyrillic, and therefore do not all have the same character set.

This version is based on the previous ParaType design by Vladimir Yefimov (see above), expanded to include seven weights, with Book, Medium, Bold, Extra Bold weights for condensed fonts. Additional Cyrillic styles were developed in 2007 by Isabella Chaeva.[47]

Futuris is a redesign at ParaType (ParaGraph) in 1991 by Vladimir Yefimov that includes Cyrillic characters. Condensed styles were added in 1993 by Vladimir Yefimov and Alexander Tarbeev. It is available in Light, Medium, Bold, Black (without oblique) weights, while condensed fonts were made in Bold, Extra Bold, all without obliques. Also available are Cameo Extra Bold (black in reverse), Shadow Light, Shadow Extra Bold (black with shadow), Volume Light.[48]

Typeface designer Adrian Frutiger acknowledges Futura as one of his inspirations for his 1988 typeface Avenir.[55] More recently Futura has been the basis of IKEA Sans and Opel Sans, fonts designed (for IKEA and Opel, respectively) by Robin Nicholas.[61][unreliable source?]

Brandon Grotesque is inspired by Futura but with an unusually low x-height, giving it a more elegant appearance for uses such as headings and display settings.[62] Designed by Hannes von Dhren of HVD Fonts, it is the main corporate font of Comedy Central until 2018.[63] In 2014, von Dhren released Brandon Text, a tighter version intended for body text.[64]

Worked around it by converting the fonts to outlines, and then exporting. But this is far from ideal, since the gradient I used, appeared different after converting the text to outlines (from a gradient over 2 lines to 2 gradients, each line 1 gradient). I had to rebuild that first.

and in the same place as styles.css I have futura.ttf, and futura.eot. I got them both from a website, so I don't know if those two files are broken or not.But all fonts still shows as Times New Roman on PC.

2) If you're hosting a copy of the font, make sure that it's on your server and the URL is pointing to it correctly. That said, if you just downloaded the font and are hoping to use it on your website, there are better ways to do this. You're going to want a web-optimized one that only includes the character sets and weights that you actually need. Otherwise, you're forcing every visitor to your site to download 200k worth of font -- no bueno. A good option would be TypeKit ( ), which does have Futura PT.

The Futura font is copyrighted, and you can legally use it as a web font only if you have made an agreement with the font vendor, directly or indirectly. See Linotype page on Futura. Contact the font vendor regarding problems in use, after double-checking that you are using the font according to the instructions.

If you find the cost excessive, consider trying to find a suitable free font that is sufficiently similar or otherwise meets your needs. There are some nice sans-serif fonts, with several typefaces, among Google Web Fonts.

The WebFont Loader is a JavaScript library that gives you more control over font loading than the Google Web Fonts API provides. The WebFont Loader also lets you use multiple web-font providers. It was co-developed by Google and Typekit.

Before someone says it, yes I am aware that those Windows people out there wont be able to see it but this is for the Mac community, anyway at this stage i can't even see it and I have the font installed on my system.

Probably the name is not the one under which browsers know it. This may differ from the PostScript name. Try using a tool for listing installed fonts (see its explanations) to determine the name. My guess is that it might be "Futura Condensed ExtraBold".

Had a similar issue myself. In Firefox you may need to use just "Futura" with font-stretch and font-weight properties. Webkit/Blink recognize the hyphenated font. This has worked for me cross browser on a Mac:

Hi,

I followed the described Typekit integration. It al went ok and I do have my font (Futura) in the dropdown menu in the editor. However, when writing text in Futura it dies not display in Futura.

Hi

I've have activated the Futura PT font in my Creative Cloud Application, and the support has been horrible. He does not understand that my fonts are NOT downloaded to my computer and he does not undertsand that I would like to use them in WordPress. Can anybody help getting me through how to download and install them in WordPress? I'm not a tech savy in ANY WAY, so step-by-step guidelines would be highly appreciated.

Then I opened up my Creative Cloud app, clicked the f (font icon) upper right corner, clicked the Browse more fonts (which opened this page here =desktop&referrer=dd01e5bd12), entered in the search text Futura PT (which opened this page here -pt), clicked Activate font next to the font types I wanted, after that I clicked the icons next to where it says Futura PT Book or Futura PT Medium and so on to make a Web Project. I clicked the Create a new project from the dropdown menu. This Web Project will then provide me with a Project ID and a text code which can be copied and pasted into WP (WordPress). Then in the upper right corner there is a tab called My Adobe Fonts, I clicked that and then in the almost upper left corner I clicked the 3rd option from the left called Web Projects, here I copied the Project ID and pasted it in to WP in the sidebar tab called Appearance>Custom Fonts> and here in the upper right corner Add New Custom Font> and under Font Type where it says Upload File in a drop down menu, I changed this to Adobe Type Kit and then underneath there I entered in my Project ID in the Adobe TypeKit Project ID field>then I clicked the Publish button to the far right. 2351a5e196
