Furniture by Laurie
Hello!
My name is Laurie McBurnie. I am a carpenter and designer in Vermont's Northeast Kingdom.
My lifelong respect and love for trees is the motivation for my work. All my benches are hand crafted using only elements of vintage furniture and reclaimed wood. No live tree harvesting required!
Each bench is unique, solidly built, and hand finished using only high-quality paints, stains, and durable top coats.
Available benches are featured below. New pieces will be added as they are completed, so check back often! Please contact me for measurements, pricing, and appointments for viewing in person. Local pick up only. Thank you for visiting my page!

Off white and lightly distressed, I could happily live in any setting.
Constructed with hard wood, painted with many coats of Chalk Paint, and sealed with a durable clear wax, this bench will make you smile for many years! SOLD!!
I was destined for the landfill and in very sad shape, but Laurie saw the potential in me.
One of my favorites, the original headboard for this bench was very old and solid wood, and deserved to be rescued. It turned out so beautifully with its dusty blue-green color, French stencil, and original brass bolt covers, I even surprised myself! Painted with an exterior primer and color, and top coated with Vermont Natural Coatings.
I am THE Natural Wood Bench, too beautiful to paint.
The making of this bench began with parts from vintage furniture by Vermont company, Sweat-Comings, started in 1875 in Richmond. I restored the original finish, then accented finials and feet with Aged Oak Stain, and sealed with Vermont Natural Coatings top coat. (The original brass plate is on the back of the bench.)
Like my sister bench above, I am constructed from vintage furniture made by the Sweat-Cumings Co. I think I'm prettier!
The reconstructed main frame of this bench is Northern White Maple, which was stripped and sealed with Vermont Natural Coatings. The finials and leg detailing were stained with Dark Walnut gel stain and topcoated. The wood for the seat was originally an old pine door!
