About Us
Funky Feathers Homestead is a family run homestead located in Pender County, North Carolina that specializes is pasture raised non GMO eggs, chicken, and pork. We believe in raising our animals as closely to the way nature intended because not only does it produce a superior product, it also produces a happy, healthier animal.
Our journey started back in 2018 with the birth of our daughter, we wanted to have a more sustainable lifestyle and have more of a connection with our food. One day I typed "homesteading" into an internet search bar and we were off! We started by getting some chickens to supply us with eggs, now most people would have started 3 or 4 at the most, but we dove in with 23! 5 months later we had our first egg and we were not disappointed at the flavor and quality!

The following spring, encouraged by our success with our laying hens, we decided to try our hand at raising our own chickens specifically for meat. We spent the winter talking with people who had done it before, reading books, and watching videos, getting ready for this big step. We raised our first batch of Freedom rangers in a chicken tractor in our front yard. They were moved every day to fresh grass for forage for 12 weeks and then we processed them right on our property! All the work was totally worth it, it was the best chicken we've ever had.
