FUBAR[1] is an American action-comedy television series created by Nick Santora for Netflix. It stars Arnold Schwarzenegger in his first leading role in a scripted live-action television series[2] and is produced by Skydance Television and Blackjack Films. The series premiered on May 25, 2023. In June 2023, the series was renewed for a second season.

Skydance Television first announced that it was developing an untitled spy television series for Arnold Schwarzenegger to star in and make his scripted live-action television debut in August 2020.[3] Shortly afterward, Monica Barbaro was cast as the lead opposite Schwarzenegger in the series where a father and daughter are both CIA officers, unbeknownst to the other.[4] Netflix won the rights for the project that November and had ordered eight episodes of the series by May 2021.[5] The cast was expanded in April 2022, announcing several regular and recurring roles.[6] Phil Abraham was announced as director and executive producer of the pilot episode in May,[7] and a July casting announcement added Adam Pally.[8] While in production, the series used the working titles Utap and FUBAR.[9][1]

Filming began in April 2022 in Antwerp, Belgium around Grote Markt.[10][11] Additional filming took place in Toronto,[12] where Schwarzenegger was seen re-teaming with former True Lies co-star Tom Arnold.[13] In September 2022, filming wrapped up with the series now titled FUBAR.[14]

A few other characters/walking stereotypes populate the series. There's a tech guy (Milan Carter), other agents (Travis Van Winkle and Fortune Feimster), Luke's ex-wife and Emma's mother (Fabiana Udenio) and Emma's nervous and soft-spoken boyfriend (Jay Baruchel, and I'd also like to ask what he's doing in this).

It didn't have to be this way. Other icons of 20th-century cinema have gone on to make great television in recent years, from Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin ("Grace and Frankie" on Netflix) to Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren ("1923" on Paramount+). But for every gem, such as Steve Martin and Martin Short in Hulu's "Only Murders in the Building," we also get a dud like Sylvester Stallone's Paramount+ series, "Tulsa King." (At least "Tulsa" had a few good jokes.)

In those chaotic final scenes of the series, his ex-wife realises she's in a car surrounded by CIA operatives. They explain to her that they're currently on the run and can no longer return home after being well and truly burned by Boro, now that their identities have all been revealed.

With Boro (Gabriel Luna) having revealed their identities to every criminal, terrorist and bad guy Luke has ever come toe-to-toe with, it's safe to say that things aren't looking good for the Brunners. They can't return home and things are very much left on an open-ended note for the series.

Despite his many roles in films, including the Terminator franchise, Predator and Collateral Damage, the actor has never taken on a lead role in a television series prior to FUBAR. So, expectations for the new Netflix series remained high.

Although FUBAR definitely can be binge-watched, thanks to the cliffhanger endings in many of its episodes, the plot of the series is almost nothing new. A boy whose father is murdered by the protagonist of the series grows up to become a revenge-oriented, powerful arms dealer with a loyal following who would do anything he asked of them.

The antagonist on a revenge quest, a race against time to stop the bad guys, the father-daughter conflict, and family drama, although keeping viewers in their seats, is more or less a tried and tested trope. Viewers were already expecting to see Schwarzenegger play a gun-wielding, into-the-action type of character, and the curveballs that the series throws at its viewers are almost anticipated.

FUBAR is no doubt a feel-good series. The plot remains tested and true, and the cast comprises noteworthy names. However, it remains to be seen if the series is able to keep viewers hooked for numerous seasons, even with Schwarzenegger at the forefront. The knack that FUBAR seems to have for brushing off life-or-death situations and the constant repetition of the same family issues, either with Luke and Emma or Luke and Tally, becomes tiring for the viewer after a certain point and takes away from the overall effect of the series.

Few series have had a bigger summer than Suits, despite the fact that the show came to an end four years ago. Who could have predicted that this USA Network original series would be more popular in its streaming afterlife than it ever was before? For most of this summer, Suits has dominated the top 10 shows on Netflix and it has even placed highly among Nielsen's streaming rankings, which factor in every major streamer. It certainly helps that eight out of nine seasons of Suits are on Netflix -- that's 124 episodes of legal dramedy, romance, and office intrigue that are just waiting for you to enjoy them.

The problem with finding more shows like Suits is that there just aren't many series like it. USA Network had a specific tone in mind when Suits joined a lineup that included Burn Notice, Royal Pains, and White Collar. There are plenty of legal dramas on TV, but what other show lets its viewers in on its secrets in the way that Suits did when Harvey Specter (Gabriel Macht) relied on his unlicensed legal associate, Michael James Ross (Patrick J. Adams), to close a case? That dynamic was unique to Suits itself. The story is inspired by the star's 1994 action-comedy True Lies, which followed a CIA agent Harry Tasker (classic Arnie name) who has to save the world and his marriage.
