A Mechanical Spider Verse Mask Goes Viral

The internet has been blown away by a mechanical Spider-Man mask created by Reddit user Kenneth Abarra. Abarra shared the project on the r/marvelstudios subreddit January 19 and it immediately went viral. The intricate replica captures the unique appearance of the character from Sony Pictures' latest movie, Spider verse.

Rather than merely rewriting history to fit the needs of a white audience, Spider-Verse takes the opportunity to show kids who want to be heroes that they can do it their way. It doesn’t treat Miles Morales as an anomaly, but rather a hero that is embraced by a community of Spider-people from alternate universes.

One of the film’s main mottoes is that anyone can wear the mask, and it embodies this idea beautifully. It also inverts the notion that a single hero will save the day, proving that it takes an entire community to fight for justice and equality.

It’s this spirit of inclusion that makes Spider verse the most inspirational superhero movie to hit theaters this year, and it’s also why its soundtrack is so incredibly diverse—featuring artists like Vince Staples, Denzel Curry, and Amine. Including different people in our stories isn’t just a matter of fairness and equity, it’s about revealing truths that would be impossible to see from a single perspective. Just like the Cubist art that inspired director Dean Gordon and Patrick O’Keefe when depicting the dimensional quakes that plagued the multiverse, Spider verse reminds us to look at things from many angles.Mask for spider-man cosplay
