For frozen foods and large casseroles, the Frigidaire 1.8 Cu. Ft. model wins this list because its massive interior handles full-sized baking dishes that smaller units simply cannot fit. If you need a compact solution for tight kitchen cabinets, the Frigidaire 0.9 CU. FT. is the logical runner-up, offering a space-saving footprint without sacrificing basic digital convenience.
• FRIGIDAIRE 1.8 — best for cooking large family meals; pick this if you need to fit a 13" x 9" baking dish or rotate big bowls on an extra-large turntable.
• Frigidaire 0.9 — best for small kitchens or apartments; pick this if your cabinet space is limited and you primarily heat single servings or standard dinner plates.
• Frigidaire FMOS1746BS — best for quick daily prep; pick this if you value bright exterior lighting and fast start options alongside a generous capacity.
When I look at the sheer volume of cooking space offered by the Frigidaire 1.8 Cu. Ft. model, it immediately stands out as the powerhouse of this group. This unit is designed for households that treat their kitchen as a central hub for real meal preparation rather than just reheating leftovers. The defining feature here is the "Fits-More Capacity," which provides enough room to accommodate larger cookware, specifically citing the ability to hold a standard 13" x 9" baking dish. That is a game-changer for anyone who bakes lasagna, roasts vegetables in bulk, or needs to warm up a full casserole without transferring food to a smaller container first.
The design philosophy behind this oven extends beyond just raw cubic footage. It includes an extra-large 12-1/2" diameter glass turntable, which ensures that even wide bowls and deep dishes rotate smoothly for even heating. In a typical kitchen, hitting the edges of a spinning plate with a bowl is frustrating; this wider turntable eliminates that friction point entirely. Furthermore, the zero-clearance door opens a full 90 degrees, meaning the door swings wide without ever bumping into adjacent walls or cabinetry. This thoughtful engineering makes loading and unloading heavy pots significantly safer and easier, especially when you are juggling multiple items.
Lighting plays a surprisingly critical role in how we interact with our appliances, and this model excels there too. It features LED lighting both inside the cavity and over the cooktop below. The interior light stays on while the dish cooks, so you can monitor progress without opening the door and losing heat. More importantly, the external LED lighting improves visibility on the stovetop, making meal preparation simpler and safer by illuminating what you are actually cooking. For those who rely on two-speed ventilation, this unit doubles effectively as a hood, pulling smoke and odors away from the cooking surface efficiently.
However, this power comes with physical trade-offs. It is not a unit you want to move frequently or install in a temporary rental space. Additionally, the sheer size means it demands significant vertical clearance above your stove. If your kitchen layout is tight or your ceiling height is low, this unit might feel imposing. But for families who prioritize capacity and versatility over a minimalist footprint, the benefits of fitting large cookware and seeing clearly while you work far outweigh the bulk.

The Frigidaire 0.9 CU. FT. model serves a completely different demographic, one that values space efficiency above all else. While the 1.8 Cu. Ft. version screams capability, this unit whispers utility. It is the ideal choice for condos, dorm rooms, or galley kitchens where every inch of counter or wall space counts. The 0.9 cubic foot capacity is sufficient for many different dish sizes, including most standard dinner plates and mugs, but it is not intended for large family casseroles or wide baking pans. If your typical meal involves reheating a single portion or cooking small batches, this unit does the job without dominating the room.
What sets this specific model apart is its focus on essential functionality wrapped in a compact package. It features a digital control panel that simplifies operation, moving away from confusing dials to clear, straightforward inputs. Auto-cooking settings are built-in, allowing you to select common foods like popcorn or potatoes with a single touch, ensuring consistent results without needing to guess the time. The inclusion of a child safety lock adds a layer of peace of mind for parents, preventing accidental activation by curious little hands. These features prove that you do not need a massive machine to get reliable, safe, and easy-to-use performance.
The stainless steel finish gives it a professional look that blends well with modern appliances, despite its smaller stature. Being roughly half the size of the largest model in terms of internal volume, it naturally has a smaller footprint on the wall. You won't find the massive 12-1/2" turntable here, but the internal dimensions are optimized to handle the average household's daily needs without wasted empty space.
The main trade-off with this model is strictly about limitation. If you try to cook a large family meal or reheat a deep-dish pizza in a wide pan, you will quickly realize the constraints of the 0.9 cu. ft. interior. It simply cannot accommodate the same variety of cookware as its larger siblings. There is no mention of specialized ventilation speeds or extensive lighting arrays in the core description, suggesting a more streamlined approach to the basics. It is a tool for the efficient cook who knows exactly what they need to heat and wants to do it without clutter. For those with ample kitchen space, it might feel underpowered, but for the space-constrained shopper, it is a perfectly tuned instrument.
The Frigidaire FMOS1746BS sits comfortably in the middle ground, offering a blend of capacity and modern conveniences that appeal to the busy everyday cook. With 1.7 cubic feet of space, it bridges the gap between the compact 0.9 model and the cavernous 1.8 model, providing enough room for large dishes while maintaining a manageable profile. The key selling points here revolve around speed and visibility, two factors that matter immensely when you are rushing to get dinner on the table. The inclusion of quick start options means you can bypass complex menus and get the microwave running instantly, a feature that saves precious seconds during hectic mornings.
Bright exterior lighting is another standout feature of this unit. Unlike some models where the light is dim or purely functional, this design prioritizes illumination outside the oven as well. This helps you see what is happening on the stove below, turning the microwave into a true task-lighting partner for your cooking zone. Inside, the accommodation for larger dishes and bowls suggests a thoughtful turntable design that handles more than just a mug or a small plate. It strikes a balance where you aren't fighting the door swing or the turntable size, but you still have plenty of room to maneuver a 9x13 pan or a large serving bowl.
This model appeals to the shopper who wants the heft of a large microwave without the absolute maximum capacity of the top-tier option. It feels like a refined upgrade to standard over-the-range units, focusing on the user experience through better lighting and faster access. The stainless steel construction ensures durability and a cohesive look with other major appliances. It is designed to be a workhorse that doesn't demand constant attention, allowing you to set it and forget it while you tend to other parts of your meal.
However, this balanced approach means it lacks the singular dominance of the other two models. It does not offer the absolute largest turntable of the 1.8 model, nor does it have the ultra-compact footprint of the 0.9 model. It is a jack-of-all-trades rather than a master of one specific niche. If your primary concern is fitting the absolute biggest possible dish, you might prefer the 1.8. If your only constraint is wall space, the 0.9 is superior. The FMOS1746BS is for the person who wants a solid, well-lit, and reasonably spacious unit that handles almost everything thrown at it without breaking a sweat.
We compared published specs and features across these three distinct models to identify the best fit for different kitchen scenarios. No brand paid for placement, and these selections are made to help you choose the right tool for your specific space and cooking habits.
Yes, the 1.8 Cu. Ft. model explicitly mentions two-speed ventilation that doubles as a hood. While the other models are over-the-range, specific ventilation details vary, so check the installation manual for the exact exhaust configuration of the smaller units.
Only the Frigidaire 1.8 Cu. Ft. explicitly states it accommodates a 13" x 9" baking dish. The 0.9 Cu. Ft. model is too small for this, and while the FMOS1746BS fits large dishes, you should verify the exact turntable diameter before attempting to fit a 13-inch pan.
All three are listed as over-the-range microwaves with similar external dimensions (around 29-30 inches in height), but installation requirements vary by bracket. Always consult the manufacturer's installation guide for your specific cabinet setup.
The 0.9 model confirms a digital control panel. The 1.8 model highlights one-touch buttons for common tasks. The FMOS1746BS offers quick start options, implying a modern interface, though the specific control type is described differently in its summary.
