Cara with Blackhawk c. 1995
"I give to the Farm because out of everywhere I have lived the Farm feels most like home. My self was shaped by my time at REF and when I am lucky enough to visit I feel my soul restored. It is my favorite place in the world and I want it to always be there. "
Ellie & Bill's daughter Sophie with Blackhawk, 2007
"On our visits to REF we always saw girls leaning over the pasture fence, paying rapt attention to the herd of horses roaming the hillside. The campers knew each horse by name, by relationships, by temperament, and by the animals' physical well-being. It was the same kind of deep attention that we so often reserve for screens--reality TV, Instagram, computer games, etc.--and it was easy to picture these same girls spending hours hanging out in their virtual worlds.
REF was utterly formative for our daughter, nurturing all that comes from being outdoors and being in intimate contact with and responsible for a farm and the animals. We also appreciated that Tom found ways for the farm to contribute to the larger rural area. Our daughter's work ethic was significantly shaped by the farm and the REF community, & all of that went hand in hand with her joy!"
Sonia & Alicia in the 90s
"I have been forever thankful for the time I spent at the farm and I want as many girls as possible to have that experience. And the place, animals, and people are extra special, so I want to do anything I can to support them."
"We give to the farm that gave to us! REF provided a few wonderful summers for our daughter: summers full of healing and laughter, lightness and horses, leadership and support."
"I can't wait for my daughter to attend."
"REF was a huge part of the village that raised my daughter, Leah, and contributed to the fabulous young woman that she is. Any help to making that possible for others is so worth it."
"We are so thankful for the role that REF has played in so many girl's lives. For our daughter Corey, who was both a camper and counselor, REF was so important and formative for her becoming the confident, empathetic, and socially justice oriented young woman she is. The bonds she made will last forever. We are grateful to Tom, Alicia, Briony, Leslie and so many others for all the life lessons, large and small, that she learned at REF. Finally, a shout-out to Huck for stealing Corey's heart!"
"[I give] So that future generations of girls can have the same special experience I had."
