Pilcher Park is a large, diverse forest complex located on the east side of Joliet in Will County along Hickory Creek. It is recognized for its high quality mesic upland forest, seep, northern flatwoods, and wet-mesic upland forest. It also has spring ephemerals and is important habitat for birds that require large expansive woodlands, like the Pileated woodpecker. Friends of Pilcher Park, a collaborative volunteer community supported by Friends of Illinois Nature Preserves, was founded in 2023 to help restore balance to this ecosystem that is threatened with invasive species and a dense canopy. Join in to help let the sunshine in!
Friends of Pilcher Park is a community-led volunteer group dedicated to restoring and preserving this rare, original oak woodland.
