Free Shervin: We works on creating publications and contacting people to support and free the artist Shervin Hajipour. As well as it looks like that Islamic Revolutionary Guard corps (IRGC) has hijacked the rights to all his works and created a false copyright claim to stop his music being shared online and even the IRGC may have forced him to sign away his copyrights…doing more investigation to find ways to support the artist rights to his creative work and his freedom.

Shervin not only has the right to his creative work, but his work also belongs to and is part of Iranian heritage and art movement and the nation’s art & culture. Our priority currently is to work and free Shervin from prison as he has not committed any crime even according to Iran’s law. But also, we try to support him to take back the control of his work. As well as during the time Shervin is in the prison as the Islamic Republic try to destroy his work, archive his work as much as possible.

The current copyright owner claimed to be “Believe Music” Tony tries to find who the beneficiary of the copyright is, and which individual or organization did set up that account with Believe Music?

“I had a long chat with YouTube but still they could not see when and who gave the right to Believe Music. YouTube said to me that they will do more investigation and email me the finding. And I also sent an email to Believe Music to see if I can get any answer from them. I will let you know when I have more updates.” Tony

PS: we cannot start the campaign before we have more facts, and we may need legal support on this too. So, if anybody knows a good lawyer, we welcome recommendations.

I am still waiting for the response from Believe Music as YouTube has come back to me and said they are still investigating but they found that the music was claimed by Believe Music On behalf of: Metaverse.

If you are not familiar with the claimant, note that they could be a 3rd party aggregator or distributor that’s working with the rightsholder to handle their content on YouTube and online. This 3rd party company acts on their behalf and has a Content ID to protect their materials from being used without their permission and to claim YouTube videos that include their music.

So, I am still investigating to find who may be the 3rd party aggregator or distributor and if they are connected to IRGC in any way.

As you may know we have tried to contact “Believe Music” to find out if they act on your behalf, as the rumours say they do not. However, they still have not responded to our request yet. For your information we are trying to find a legal representative to start an official enquiry for clarification.

This will not cost you anything as we can start crowd funding in your support. We know that it may be very difficult for you to contact us, but we would appreciate it if you can release a video informing us first about how you are? and if “Believe Music” is acting on your behalf? Trust us Iranian people will not leave you alone. You have a big fan base here in Iran, UK and internationally and they will not let us give up.

Dear Shervin

In our investigation about your works copyright issues and the claim of “Believe Music” for the right to your work, yesterday we contacted BBC however as they did not have much information about it either but as we manage to get a larger media company involved in investigation, I guess it was effective, as of today Believe Music has been taking back their claim. However, they did not communicate with us, and we just put media pressure on them, but the good news is that they have been taking back the claim. And the work is yours again. Unfortunately, we cannot register the copyright on your behalf as you are not here and we don’t have any contract with you, but it is advised to do that as soon as you have time with some agent. But as we have circulated your music online there is enough evidence and Digital ID that shows the work is yours now. However later on when things are good again if you are interested you are welcome to contact us so we can help you to set up a music distributor account that protects your rights internationally.

PS: There has never been any contact between us and Shervin. As we do not know him, and he has never been one of our artists. We were contacted by some of his fans which asked us to help him with the issues. The job was completely voluntary work for Artist Aid.
