Zune applications were mobile apps and games that were available for Microsoft's Zune portable media players. Some of the games were multiplayer-capable and could be played with other Zune devices within wireless reach. Zune HD games and applications were available in the "Apps" section of Zune Marketplace for free. There were forty-two games and twenty other applications officially released for the Zune HD over the span of two years.

On August 31, 2012, the "Apps" section of the Zune Marketplace and users' Zune media collections were disabled by Microsoft within the Zune Software, although it can be reenabled by editing the software's registries.[1] All apps could still be downloaded directly to Zune HD devices using their own "Marketplace" option. As of December 2013, registry edits no longer allow the Zune app marketplace to work and apps can no longer be purchased directly via the device.

IMPORTANT UPDATE: After I spent time doing this out I found out on Twitter that there's a small but active Zune community on Reddit! Props for them to doing this in several ways as well. The simplest way to update today is to point resources.zune.net to zuneupdate.com's IP address in your hosts file. The way I did it does use the files directly from Microsoft and gives you full control, but it's overly complex for regular folks for as long as the zuneupdate.com server exists as a mirror. Use the method that works easier for you and that you trust and understand!

What about songs I bought as MP3s?

Any MP3s, whenever and wherever they were purchased, are not affected. MP3 songs will continue to play normally using your current apps and devices.

What if some of the songs aren't available as MP3s?

Some songs might play in the Zune software even though theyre not in the Groove music catalog. To preserve those songs, burn them to an audio CD.

Here is a link to download the User Guide for Zune Players. Click on Download, tick checkbox next to Zune Player\zuneplayers.pdf, click Next and it will be downloaded to your computer. (ignore the Surface Pro website page that is being shown, watch your downloads appearing on your browser page).

Uptodown is a multi-platform app store specialized in Android. Our goal is to provide free and open access to a large catalog of apps without restrictions, while providing a legal distribution platform accessible from any browser, and also through its official native app.

Zune games are video games playable on the Microsoft Zune (portable media player). Some of these games are multiplayer and can be played with other Zunes in wireless reach. Zune HD games and apps are available in the apps section of Zune Marketplace. Currently, all of the games available are produced by Microsoft and available for free.

The new offerings include a stopwatch utility, a game of Solitaire, and a Labyrinth puzzle. None of the new apps are likely to cause pangs of jealousy from iPod Touch owners, although at least they're free.

this little hint is necessary if you want to sync your zune with your computer. I had some issues, but I solved them by changing my area.

To sum up: never had problems with regional restrictions here in austria.

dude, chill out. close the zune software. go to start->control panel->regional and language settings (or something similar). change the location from Venazuela to United States. Open the zune software and the marketplace tab should be there. it worked for me (from the United Kingdom).

I have had my zune over a year in canada (imported it from the usa) and I managed to get into the zune account (marketplace and social) before they blocked it in canada (the Canadian zune release was this year) but since the release I cant buy music. I also can not create a new zune account for my friends due to region blocking.

If you happen to have a windows mobile phone try to install the web browser skyfire on it. This US based software renders all the pages in the US and feeds them to your device. Therefore zune website thinks you are in the US and allows you to sign up for an account, accept the terms and conditions and you can then do a runner.

I live in greece, what is going to happen with this?

At least they MUST do smthing about the credit cards.

It is not possible not to be able to by apps. i need translator and medical atlas, its impossible not to have them in my phone. its outrageous not to be able to buy them.

ZuneBoards member Netrix developed an app called Liberate which lets you run some Windows CE and Windows Mobile apps on the Zune HD by killing the Zune HD user interface and bringing up the Windows CE explorer.

Ads don't show up (or at least they haven't yet) when launching the utility apps, calc and weather; instead, they are limited to the games. The games themselves are bright, colorful, and work much better with the touchscreen than they ever did with the touch pad in the last Zune models. Chess and Sudoku, especially, look like an excellent diversion when you have a few minutes to kill.

The apps are all touch-enabled, though it looks as though only the calculator takes advantage of the accelerometer; twisting the screen into landscape mode switches the calculator to a scientific model.

Like the Web browser, the apps feel like a decent "bonus" on a generally excellent media player, though none are exceptionally compelling. Reactions to the ads may differ, though it is possible to avoid them by keeping games off the Zune HD.

I have been a vocal advocate for the Zune HD, check my list of links below for related articles, and thus I was disappointed to receive the email you see below that informed me of several features that will no longer be available for the Zune. The one that has the biggest impact for me is the loss of Apps for the Zune HD.Thanks to Grahm Skee's Twitter post I found where the Zune HD apps are stored and now have all of them archived in case I need to get them back on my Zune HD in the future.

Songs that you purchased, streaming and downloading as a part of the Zune Music Pass and ability to use your Zune HD will not change. Other than apps, most of the changes deal with music videos, which I never used. Here is the list of features that will no longer be available:

If you have a Zune HD then I recommend you grab all the apps you can and then visit c:/users/[username]/appdata/local/microsoft/zune/applications on your computer to archive the Zune apps (appear as .zcp files).

Alongside gaming there will also be apps for things such as Twitter and Facebook up for grabs from the Zune Marketplace, and all content will be downloadable over a Wi-fi connection, or when hooked up to your PC.

The idea for now is to keep all the apps and games free, and have them developed in house or in close collaboration with third parties, rather than releasing an SDK for people to develop apps willy nilly.

Windows 11 Insiders in the Canary Channel have an update to install. Windows 11 Build 25905 includes several changes and fixes. Most notably, the update drops support for Arm32 UWP apps (Arm64 apps are unaffected). The build also includes a surprising fix for a famous unsupported device from Microsoft.

The Windows Phone team recently announced that it will remove the Windows Phone apps section from the Zune Desktop client due to the fact that users mostly access those through the web interface or the mobile client directly on the device. Despite the fact that I do support this change, I know there are also users who might want to keep using the Zune software on their PC to download apps for their Windows Phone.

That is, if your client version is 4.8. For other clients check out the Zune API documentation page I wrote a while ago. This configuration file has a node called apps, and in the updated version it has the status set to disabled.

The configuration is being cached on each launch, this is why you are getting the alert when the settings change and you need to restart the client. To get the Windows Phone apps back in the desktop client, you need to set the status value to enabled. But how do you intercept the XML file? There are several ways to do it. The easiest one is to use your own mini (or not so mini) web server with the folder structure used by the endpoint to get the configuration. Here is what I did with IIS:

Now whenever tuners.zune.net is accessed for the configuration file, the local version will be fetched. If you already updated the configuration to the one disabling Windows Phone 7 apps, restart the Zune client. You will see that you will once again get an alert notifying you that the settings changed. Restart the Zune client once more and voila:

I wonder how to create Zune-like apps (I mean Metro style). But I don't want them to be Windows Store apps (I have already installed Windows 8 platform with VS2012). Could you tell me if I should download some style pack or something like that? Maybe there are some libraries implementing Metro? If yes, plese make me know which one is the best.

Over at the Windows Phone Blog, Microsoft has announced a couple of changes coming to the Windows Phone Marketplace. First, the company will be removing the ability to download Windows Phone apps through their Zune PC software. Secondly, the app market will now only work with devices running Windows Phone 7.5.

Up until now, Microsoft has offered three ways to get WP7 apps: the web (Windows Phone Marketplace), the Marketplace app found on all WP7 devices or Zune for Windows. According to Microsoft, they just want to focus on delivering Windows Phone apps through the official Marketplace instead of spreading their efforts across multiple platforms.

What does this mean for Zune users? Not much. Although users can no longer download WP7 apps through their Zune software, the Zune HD app store will remain operational for everyone's Zune-specific needs. The software will also continue to be used for making WP7 handset backups and transferring files like photos and music. 0852c4b9a8
