I had no idea for all these years why a lot of Android games got a black border on the top near the camera. I thought the aspect ratio on the game were just like that, but no ! Today I found out that there is a setting called "camera cutout" located under display option where if you select the app and change it from auto to show camera cutout, it get rids of the ugly black borders and make the games go full screen. This is likely be true for apps as well if they have similar issue. What a shame for me not figuring this out all these years :( Thought I will leave this here in case anyone struggles with the same

Have you asked yourself what makes an Android game the best? Ultimately, it's pretty complicated. But there are plenty of defining qualities that allow mobile titles to shine on your favorite Android gaming phone. Sure, you'll have to dodge the many mobile games designed to separate you from your money, which is why it can be so challenging to find the very best Android apps and games on the Play Store. Thankfully, AP is here to help by offering an alternative to what the Play Store loves to highlight, and so today's roundup is built with hand-picked selections of the best Android games out there, broken up into genres so you can quickly jump to your favorite style of gameplay.

Matthew is a furious nitpicker and something of an (albeit amusing) curmudgeon, a writer who can instantly find fault in just about anything, yet he chooses to wield this power for good from the comfort of his armchair to ensure the best Android games and apps aren't lost to obscurity.

In 1997, Nokia launched Snake.[5] Snake, which was pre-installed in most mobile devices manufactured by Nokia, has since become one of the most played games and is found on more than 350 million devices worldwide.[6] Mobile devices became more computationally advanced allowing for downloading of games, though these were initially limited to phone carriers' own stores. Mobile gaming grew greatly with the development of app stores in 2008, such as the iOS App Store from Apple. As the first mobile content marketplace operated directly by a mobile platform holder, the App Store significantly changed the consumer behaviour and quickly broadened the market for mobile games, as almost every smartphone owner started to download mobile apps.[7]

The launch of Apple's iPhone in 2007 and the App Store in 2008 radically changed the market. The iPhone's focus on larger memory, multitasks, and additional sensing devices, including the touchscreen in later model, made it ideal for casual games, while the App Store made it easy for developers to create and post apps to publish, and for users to search for and obtain new games.[7] Further, the App Store added the ability to support in-app purchases in October 2009. This allowed games like Angry Birds and Cut the Rope to find new monetization models away from the traditional premium "pay once" model. Meanwhile, Apple's disruption caused the market to stabilized around iPhone devices and Google's Android-based phones which offered a similar app store through Google Play.

Many game apps are free to play through a combination of these models. Over time, mobile developers of these types of apps have observed that the bulk of their players do not spend any funds on their game, but instead revenues are generated from a small fraction, typically under 10% of their total players. Further, most of the revenue is generated by a very small fraction, about 2%, of the total players, who routinely spend large amounts of money on the game. A similar split on revenue had been seen in social-network games played in browsers. These players are known as "whales", inspired by same term used for high rolling gamblers. The social nature of a mobile game has also been found to affect its revenue, as games that encourage players to work in teams or clans will lead to increased spending from engaged players.[27]

There are also apps with similar purposes which are not games per se, in this case, they are called gamified apps. Sometimes it is difficult to draw a line between multipurpose games and gamified apps.

Hence, some developers write little scripts in their websites that make your phone install certain apps or .apk files or other stuff by themselves, as soon as you visit those sites. Of course, you can uninstall/delete them later but this irritates you for sure.

Enabling Unknown Sources will allow downloading and installation of applications from any website across the internet. You can disable this feature which will stop apps from downloading by themselves.

Restricting background data is also one of the most helpful ways to prevent automatic unwanted downloads by apps on Android. All the malicious applications consume background data/WiFi connection to download apps automatically or upload your valuable data, logs, and passwords to hackers in the form of an image.

Once you have restricted the background data, it will prevent automatic unwanted apps downloading on your Android smartphone and will allow only all those apps that you have allowed from the setting manually.

Factory reset on Android is also a good option to consider if apps are getting automatically installed on Android devices. Factory restore will delete all the files and settings which you are having on your Android smartphone or tablet, so make sure that you are having a backup of your Android device.

Games that you've downloaded from the Google Play Store can be uninstalled with your Android's app manager. If the game came preinstalled on your device, you'll only be able to disable it. Disabling an app will hide it from your app list and prevent it from using resources. If your device is rooted, these apps can be completely removed.

You can move some of these easily using a simple method like the Google Photos app for pictures and Google's contact apps for your contacts. But how can you transfer your apps and games to a new device? There are two methods to consider. Read on to find out.

You can transfer your data from the Copy apps & data screen during the initial setup. With this, you will be able to quickly restore your contacts, apps, photos, and more with a click of a button. Of course, the pre-requisite here is that you did back up your Android data to your Google account.

That's how you restore all your apps to your new Android smartphone. We recommend using the Play Store app as it allows multiple selections of apps. As such, you can select a variety of apps, then tap the download icon and let Google Play Store do the rest of the work. The browser version is quite limiting and quite complicated.

For instance, it makes it challenging to view apps in your download history that are not yet installed on your new device. There's also the extra step to enter your Google password, which you can easily avoid by using the Play Store app.

Using the method above will not help you restore apps not listed in the Google Play Store. For that, you'll have to hunt down those apps individually via any of the best Google Play Store alternatives and manually install them to your new Android device.

Moving on to a new shiny Android device feels good, but the problem might come with porting over your apps and data. No matter which data you have, there are different options available at your disposal.
