While its fairly easy to add a web bookmark shortcut to the home screen on most android systems, there doesn't seem to be a way to do this on the amazon kindle fire. Usually chrome or firefox is used to create the link on other android systems, but the Silk web browser doesn't seem to have this capability. I don't think its possible to install chrome or firefox on a kindle fire out-of-the-box without doing some fancy editing.

Downloading Chome does not fix this problem. There is still no option to add a bookmark to the home screen. I'm looking at the Fire tablet, next to my Galaxy, both in Chrome. The option in just plain nonexistent on the Fire

Option 1. To add a web shortcut to the home screen, save a webpage as a bookmark, then go to your bookmarks, press and hold the one you want, and select 'add to home screen' (I'm not sure this works for newer Kindles, though)

You can get bookmarks on by adding a widget. But, to add widgets, you need to install a new launcher. -to-install-a-new-launcher-on-amazons-fire-tablet/ describes how to change the launcher to the familiar google now launcher. After you do that, you can long press on the home screen to add widgets. There is a Silk widget which show bookmarks on the home screen. Not exactly simple. But having the launcher and the Play store are nice for other reasons also.

The point about the Fire for Kids thing is that you get an almost endless set of apps and books with no ads, no in game purchase nagging and no interference from the online world. This is great for most kids. You are paying for a free stream of stuff, which is why you see the stuff on the home screen.

Molgrips. Just the apps we want him to have. Some specific learning apps and games etc .

What we wanted was a simple front screen with just what we download, not filled up with thousands of other tempting apps that he will get lost inside.

Now when you return to the home screen, you should see those changes. Note that the screenshots below show the step-by-step process on an Amazon Fire 7 (2022) tablet running Fire OS 8. But the steps are nearly identical for tablets running Fire OS 7, even though some menus may look a little different.

First, open the regular Google app. Otherwise, you'll see a "Google Assistant isn't available on this device" message. Once you've used the Google app at least once, open the Assistant app. You're promoted to set Google as the default Assist app. Once that's done, Assistant opens the app from the homescreen.

If you want to use "Hey Google" or "Ok Google" to activate Assistant, tap the Get Started button at the bottom of the Assistant pop-up menu. Follow the on-screen instructions for setting up Voice Match, then Assistant responds to the "Hey Google" or "Ok Google" voice commands.

Fire Toolbox walks you through most of its early setup, but you do need to enable ADB on your tablet to get started. Before plugging in your device, head to the Settings menu, find Device Options near the bottom of the list, then tap About Fire Tablet. Tap several times on the Serial Number until a small message at the bottom of the screen displays your status as a developer. Head back to the Device Options screen, toggle it on at the top of the page, then select USB debugging under the Debugging subcategory.

You can customize the homepage layout to include a visible sidebar for navigating categories. You can also modify the Continue Watching and Watchlist rows. Other topics (Change the App Logo, Icon, and Splash Screen and Change Font, Media Playback Elements, Related Content, and More) list other changes you can make.)

This element also controls the color of the video title and description on the preview screen (which appears when you click a video but haven't started media playback). It also controls the color of the text on the buttons, such as "Watch Now" and "Resume Playback."

See the following section, Customize the Search Button for information on how to customize the search. Customizations to the search button change the button's appearance on the home screen and the search screen.

Note that for the default homepage layout ("Browse"), this element controls the category title above the videos rows. For the Full Browse layout, it changes the color of the category titles in the left navigation bar.

To remove both the Watchlist row from the Home screen and the "Add to Watchlist" button from the Content Details screen, open your Navigator.json file (inside app > assets) and add enableWatchlistRow: false to the config object, like this:

The search form background appears on the search screen when you start typing your search query. This color is controlled through an image file (rather than a hex code) to achieve a gradient. To change the color of the search form background:

During our interview with Charlotte Maines, we talked about the future of the Fire TV and how the home screen will become more personalized. This comes as just over a year ago, Amazon rolled out a new Fire TV home screen with more rows of content recommendations. Now Amazon says they want to make this new home screen and the Fire TV even better by making it more personalized.

Charlotte Maines stopped short of going into details about how they will make the Fire TV home screen more personalized. However, it is easy to see how Amazon can take all of the data they have on what you watch to bring more relevant content to each Fire TV user.

When the Kindle Fire first came out, you could delete or favorite items from the Carousel on the home screen. A new feature of the 6.2.1 update is, it lets you remove items from the Carousel and Favorites.

So, while the Fire TV home screen is largely an automatically managed interface, where you have little control over what you see, Amazon does cede a little bit of control to you, the user. But before I get to the "how," I'll get the "why" out of the way first. We at Tom's Guide think Amazon shouldn't be filling its Fire TV device home screens with content (which is primarily from Prime Video, IMDb TV and other Amazon properties).

But, since Amazon does let you control a little bit of the home screen, a little sliver of six app icons (arguably enough for most people), we thought it was time to explain that you can change what icons appear on the home screen, and how to rearrange them.

Your apps row at the top of your Fire TV home screen should be just the way you want it! Less clicking around for you! And now that it's set up, check out our guide to the new movies and shows to watch this weekend.

Looking for more wisdom about the Fire TV? We've got a guide on how to install Kodi on Amazon Fire Stick and Fire TV if you're looking to find media from non-traditional means, and how to add Fire TV profiles so your family members' activity doesn't change your home screen.

To switch from a kid profile to your own grown-up profile, tap the Grownups icon at the top right side of the screen on the home page. A menu will pop-up and offer you a Switch Profiles option. Choose your profile and then enter your password or pin.

Is there a way to only have picture in picture on Fire TV stick only show while Channels app is the focus? I have a macro on my remote that when I press power it goes to the home screen and then powers off everything.

I'm back to thinking about this. I really really don't understand how to best use PIP on the fire tv. How can I make it where PIP is only available within Channels DVR app? I do not want it on my screen but I do want it when looking the the guide. Is this possible? How do you even switch back to the PIP full screen?

Yep. It doesn't work well. I'm not alone in feeling this way. I may be reading into your question but it does come across as "don't waste dev time doing something that already exists". The problem I have is that it is not intuitive, and it does not exit PIP when leaving channels for the home screen. Now I've got to teach my family to pat their heads and rub their tummies to turn off the tv correctly. You probably don't have this problem or you don't mind the extra key presses. I do. See the list of the apps I mentioned above. They all function the way I explain and there's a good reason: it's better. Channels is the only media player I've used that uses the clunky PIP. Perhaps you like it. Sorry about that.

I recently replaced my traditional home security system with a more modern set up. The old system was your typical box with multiple wired sensors hooked up to doors, windows, motion detectors & smoke/carbon monoxide detectors. The new set up takes all these existing sensors and exposes them as things in SmartThings where you can use the SmartThingsSmart Home Monitor(SHM). This results in improved visibility, control and customization abilities of your home monitoring solution. You can learn more about this in my blog post DIY Home Security System with Konnected.io & SmartThings.

With an Amazon Fire TV Stick, you can watch over a million movies and TV episodes. But first, you need to download apps, such as Netflix, YouTube, and Spotify, to your device. Here are all the different ways to download an app on your Fire TV Stick and how to add them to your home screen.

To add apps to your Fire TV home screen, click the Apps icon that looks like three boxes with a plus sign. Then highlight the app you want to move and press the Menu button on your remote. Finally, select Move and use your remote to add the app to the top row.

Many screens on the Kindle Fire enable you to choose whether you are viewing content on the device or in the cloud. Having content in the cloud makes sharing that content among multiple devices easy. You can read the same book or watch the same movie on your Kindle Fire, your computer, and your smartphone. 9af72c28ce
