I am in Syria , and this report is worrying , i myself uses the latest snapshot of tor alone in linux , but my sister and most of the ppl that i know uses ultrasurf because it is simply much tech-dumb-proof.

and because the tor bundle disable the use of flash & js , while ultra-surf doesn't. so they think that tor is broken without knowing the full story.

Your blog posts don't really debunk any of the specific things Jacob Appelbaum talks about. Your blog posts sound much more like a personal attack on him than what he wrote about ultrasurf. The reply from the Ultrasurf developers is so vague and has no value. It sounds like you were seriously hurt (personally, financially?) by Jacobs review (or "critique") of Ultrasurf.

i create a rule to block Ultrasurf on top and a rule to allow any below it. but ultrasurf still can bypass. surprisingly once ultrasurf connected to its server, PAN unable to logged the traffic. No traffic looged in URL filtering, Threat and Traffic log.

and currently im applying the same method like yours, create a block rule for unknown-tcp with port 443 ...this will block ultrasurf user from browsing any site but in the ultrasurf status is still 'succesfully connected'.

When ultrasurf updates to a new version, PAN only recognize the APP as ssl. What i've noticed though is that ultrasurf calls to TAIWAN(hi-net) network, a dynamic network. So what i did was i created a rule that blocks TAIWAN & unknown-tcp. Problem solved for Ultrasurf.

I am using ubuntu 10.04. Is there any software to bypass the firewall configured by my network administrator. I have seen my friend using software named ultrasurf in windows which bypasses the firewll, masks it's IP, can able to surf anonymously etc ...Is there any equivalent software available in ubuntu?

Generally, i access my internet without using any proxy servers ie my firefox/IE always has this option unchecked. Then i ran ultra surf this one time (on vista x64) and it worked fine but then once i closed ultra surf i couldn't connect in either browser, inspite of having my original browser settings, wherein no proxy server option was selected.

So currently, i can connect only by using ultra surf and not without it, which's consequently affecting my speed esp for torrents.

I'm certain its not an issue with the settings in my browser, because my torrent client is behaving similarly ( works only when ultrasurf's on ) so if u can point out to something else, i could try that out.

Also, can't be a router issue as it works fine on my other OS.

I generally dont have good luck with forums but hoping u guys can help me out, till then ultrasurf it is.

Yes i understand that browser settings do not change but i suspect that there's a process running which bypasses the normal route when i try to connect(without ultrasurf), probably because, prior to using ultrasurf i tried using some public proxy server websites which could directly do what ultrasurf was doing, so this could have installed some malware perhaps. Can you suggest a specific malware detection software which can detect such a thing. I've run a full scan (kaspersky 2009) and the problem still persists

Well, the problem is that internet won't work without ultrasurf. utorrent, Firefox (with the addon turned off), IExplore, Spotify... Nothing works unless Ultrasurf is turned on. It also affects my Ubuntu partition and other computers who use the router and never had Ultrasurf installed. It must be some configuration Ultrasurf creates in the router, since it works for a while every time I restore it to factory settings.

Apparently ultrasurf is malware. I've been using it for a while now and never realized what its been doing using my own computer. Its most likely responsible for your problems too. My guess is its forcing you to use it every time you use the internet so it can do what was described in that thread. I always thought it was to good to be a free product.

i am also facing the same problem, i read all the answers to this thread, but none of them helped me, i am using windows 8.1, i used ultrasurf for small period but after when i exit it, m not been able to use the internet with my default settings, however i unchecked all the three option in LAN settings, i have tried opera, IE, google chrome, and firefox,

but no result,

m very worried, i have already installed windows 4 times in just a period of 6 to 8 months,

i can't reinstall my windows
